Great value - warm hospitality!

A small, family run hotel that serves up hospitality in large portions. Rooms facing the courtyard in back have balconies (tiny but serviceable) - are spacious and clean. The breakfast is generous and can be enjoyed on the courtyard patio. The staff is very accomodating - they even brought us a bowl of freshly picked tart cherries, for which Hungary is known, when we checked in! There is parking in the courtyard, very important since street parking is limited and all metered. Kecskemet is a charming and wonderful town. Go in June when they have their annual wine festival in the town square!

Frankly, this is not even a hotel in the conventional sense... a complete disaster, avoid it!!

We stayed in this hotel based on the location, the attractive photos on the booking website, and because of the very competitive price. Well, you get what you pay for... The hotel is in a good location near the centre of town, and the physical potential of the rooms is not bad: there is flat screen TV, air conditioning, and a refrigerator. What is totally lacking is any kind of maintenance, service or attention. When we arrived the reception was unattended, eventually we managed to find a person in the basement kitchen, who didn't know anything about our booking. There was no computer booking system, the cash register didn't work, and card payments were inoperative. The room we were shown was dirty, neglected, with damaged and filthy furniture, and the TV did not work. A second room looked slightly better, but was equally dirty, the bedclothes were torn, there was chewing gum left on a table, and the outside air conditioning box was so noisy that it had to be stopped. The only person on site was the lady from the kitchen, who did everything including cooking and cleaning, but never managed to get the cash register and the card reader working. We eventually paid cash (in the basement kitchen!!) , but didn’t get a receipt. This hotel has not seen any care, attention or maintenance for years and there is apparently no-one who checks the status and condition of the rooms, booking are not kept properly, and apparently no-one has any idea about how a hotel should be operated. This is not a three star hotel as listed - not even one star!! Overall, this place is not even up to the standards of a student dormitory and should not be listed in any hotel reservation service until they get their act together and start operating like a hotel should. Avoid this place like the plague!!

Very pleasant

I stayed here while on a course in the town. My room was clean and big with a fridge, a balcony and a sofa.
All the hotel staff were brilliant, really helpful and friendly, even when I came back at 4am and had to wake someone up to let me in!
Some previous reviews mention the bells waking them up but this is the same throughout the whole town. You can hear the bells everywhere and there is no escaping them.
Having visited some of my classmates hotels I would definitely recommend the Apollo!
The only negative point would be having to walk down a small dark road to get home at night. It seemed very safe but made me a little uneasy as I was on my own, although I'm sure it would be fine if there were two of you.

Fine for a short stay

We stayed overnight here on our way to Budapest. The room was on the first floor of the family run hotel. We were helped with our suitcase up the stairs, as there is no elevator. The house is of Germanic style so sound carries. The room is fairly cramped with a large bed, sofa & fridge taking up most of the room. There is a very narrow balcony overlooking the parking area. There is air conditioning, for which you have to pay HUF1000 extra. At 10.30pm, the thermometer in the room still read 30C, even with the door to the balcony open. Having the door open also led to an invasion of mosquitos. So, we paid the extra and had a comfortable night's sleep. The ensuite shower & toilet can only be considered 'tired'. Although it is generally clean, there were some areas of mold in some hard to reach places. The taps were strange in that you could turn them on to a reasonable pressure but then the water would stop completely for no apparent reason.
Breakfast was set out in the downstairs restaurant and we were able to eat outside on the veranda.
We were able to park undercover but only because we were the only guests with a car. With more vehicles the space would be very tight for manoeuvring.
Overall, the hotel is fine for a short stay, well positioned for the town centre, with pleasant staff

Great hotel - great value for money!!

This small 24-room hotel in the center of Kecskemet is GREAT value for money. The room was huge, very clean, with air-condition and TV with international channels - and the location is great. The staff was extremely helpful and did their outmost to that we felt good (they really cared, was always helpfull - and took pride in their small establishment).
Breakfast was very good (simple- but good) and we paid 135EURO for a double room for 3 nights all included (and this was during high season)
I can recommend this for both tourist and business travellers!
