Elevator with Attachment Issues
Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade was a very pleasant stay overall. Nicely positioned near Tiergarten, it has that fresh, green Berlin feeling while still being very convenient for the city.
The hotel definitely gives some classic corporate Sheraton energy, but in a good way: well maintained, professionally operated, comfortable, and everything works as it should. I received a beautiful upgrade, enjoyed the terrace views, and the staff throughout the stay were genuinely warm and hospitable.
Check-in was particularly good. My room wasn’t ready yet, but instead of leaving me to wander around Berlin looking tired and homeless, they gave me access to the lounge so I could refresh, relax and settle in properly. Small gesture, big difference.
Housekeeping was also extremely friendly and attentive.
The only slight plot twist came upon departure, when I got stuck in the elevator. Not exactly the final Marriott Bonvoy experience I had envisioned, and definitely not something I needed to unlock as a new life achievement.
Thankfully, I eventually escaped captivity.
Apart from my brief vertical hostage situation, the stay was excellent. The hotel feels well cared for, the team is welcoming, and the overall operation feels solid.
Thank you, Marriott. I’d happily return. Preferably using an elevator that has no emotional attachment to me.

A Nightmare Stay — This Hotel Does Not Deserve the Sheraton Name
This hotel is completely unworthy of the Sheraton name. My experience was an absolute nightmare from beginning to end.
The room was extremely dirty, and despite asking the reception multiple times to have it cleaned, I repeatedly came back to find that it had still not been cleaned. At one point, I asked the receptionist how I was supposed to sleep in a dirty bed. His response was essentially, “It’s not my problem” and “I cannot do anything for you.” I was shocked by the lack of professionalism and basic customer service.
The air conditioning was not working, the coffee machine in my room was broken, and when I reported these issues, I was simply told that nothing could be done.
The reception staff were also extremely rude and, at times, were shouting. There were long periods when nobody answered the reception at all. The hotel is enormous, yet there seemed to be only a handful of staff working, which clearly affected the cleanliness, service, and overall safety of the property.
I have photos and videos documenting the condition of the room and the issues I experienced. I will be sharing them so people can see for themselves what the reality of this hotel was during my stay.
Honestly, I have stayed in one-star hotels that were cleaner, better maintained, and provided much better customer service.

Unprofessional management

Unprofessional management, unauthorized charges, and total lack of accountability!
I am extremely disappointed with how this hotel handles its guests and finances. I canceled my reservation on December 28, 2025. According to the policy, the cancellation fee was strictly the cost of the first night only (€101.15). I was physically present at the hotel's front desk that night. The receptionist processed the cancellation right in front of me, showed me the screen confirming that the booking was canceled, and I paid the €101.15 in CASH directly to him.
Despite this, the hotel illegally charged my credit card an outrageous €531.70 (a 90% cancellation fee)! To make it even worse, look at the official invoice they sent me (attached): it literally states "Late Cancellation Fee 0%" but they still charged €531.70. This is a massive, ridiculous failure in their accounting and management system.
When I contacted the hotel to resolve this clear overcharge, they completely refused to discuss the matter and unprofessionally told me to "talk to a third party" (Booking.com). This is unacceptable. The hotel's receptionist took my cash, the hotel's system charged my credit card, and the hotel issued this broken invoice. Passing the responsibility to Booking.com while holding both my cash and my credit card money is a shameful business practice.
Avoid this hotel if you want to protect your money. They do not take responsibility for their own front-desk mistakes and treat honest customers with zero respect.

Nice Hotel !
We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel in Berlin. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The staff were friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere and a convenient location for exploring the city. The breakfast was delicious, with a good selection of food. We would happily stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Berlin.

No functional AC
Beware, the hotel’s air conditioning is not working in some rooms, and unable to deal with the heat in other rooms.
I had booked a panoramic suite, and told at check in none of those rooms had working AC. Then given another suite - AC not working either although front desk says it is… Moved to a regular room, asking for anything with working AC. The room must be around 80 F!
