A solid choice

Solid because really built as a Soviet nuclear shelter and solid choice because it is very well maintained and very clean. Large comfortable room, plenty of hot water in the shower, good internet, good mattress.
View over the Parliament (10th floor) and very central. Breakfast buffet pleasant but coffee not hot enough. The lobby/bar is too quiet.

Rude Ukrainian Hotel Experience

This was my third hotel I stayed at in Ukraine and my first bad experience. I was going to extend my stay by one day and possibly 11 days but the front desk person was rude and not helpful. I selected another hotel in Kiev, the hassle switching hotels in the same city is something I try to avoid. However, there are hotels with better location and value in Kiev that I don’t have to put up with a rude front desk person! My recommendation is stay far away from the Natsionalny Hotel!

Very decent hotel in the center of Kiev

I stayed in Natsionaly two times for approximately 5 days. Decent and clean hotel in a luxurious communist style. Great location in the center of Kiev. It is only a 5 minute walk to main street Khreschatyk. Do not expect great service af this hotel: the personnel does not always speak English and it is strictly forbidden for them to smile or be friendly to guests (sometimes they might even come across as angry). The price of a room including breakfast is very low in my view. I would recommend this hotel, good value for money.

Excellent hotel

We absolutely loved this hotel. The ladies at reception were welcoming and helpful, the barman was friendly and the breakfast team was great. Our room, the junior suite, was good value, comfortable and clean. We loved the decor, style and history of the hotel. And we don't understand the negative comments about breakfast! Although slightly chaotic, it makes perfect sense to order from a menu - far less waste of food when everything is prepared freshly rather than sat around at a buffet breakfast to be thrown away. Yoghurt, fruit salad, toast, omelette or eggs, juices, pancakes, sausages, cheese, ham.. What more do you need? Wish we'd stayed longer. Don't change Natsionalny, you're perfect as you are.

Traditional Soviet style hotel

Traditional Soviet style hotel, big imposing building with large spaces and large ceilings.There is nothing wrong with the hotel, the staff lack a bit of personality there are no big smiles to greet you and any question is answered by one word sentences, but in general the hotel is clean and offers good value for money The breakfast is not great and very limited choice . Good location very close to Independence Square, central part of the city plus the National Treasure museum , parliament etc, everything is walkable from the hotel.Would i stay here again, i probably would as there was nothing wrong with it.
