still splendid
Everything was superb as usual.
1. Punctual pick-up at the airstrip;
2. Generous welcoming gifts;
3. My room had been cooled;
4. Breakfast was up to its usual standard, not extravagant but all the essentials, my eggs cooked 'over easy' were always perfect; and;
5. The band (now a trio) is still playing delightfully.
The hotel is walking distance to the popular night markets and tuktuks, songtaus, or Grab provide convenient transport to the old town or whatever.

It is my second home.
In an previous review, written under j_k_hendriks@outlook.com i already said that the hotel is in need of renovation. But still it is a good hotel. Just like many years before i nog have the same room as always. It feels like coming home.
What i like: Breakfast is good; staff is friendly. cleaning of the room is good. I tip the lady who comes to clean every day. One other thing worth mentioning is that The Empress is affordable, not unimportant for tourists, I stay here 7 weeks, leave next month. Leaving the Empress always makes me sad; as if i leave my home and family.
There are better hotels in Chiang Mai, but no hotel makes me feel at home as the Empress does. My next visit tot Chiang Mai is in Januari for a three months period.
Since that is in high season a stay for three months at the Empress is to expensive, but i certainly come back next year.

I was upgraded to executive room on the 17 floor and was met with a goodie bag upon arrival and fruit delivered to my room.
The room was spacious, and so was the bathroom. Bed was VERY comfortable and I slept very well. It was also quiet, so no disturbances from traffic or other noise.
Breakfast was okey, with variety of both Asian and Western food.
It is walking distance from the Night Market (10 min).
