The Hotel Laudinella provided the perfect winter experience

Five stars is not enough for this lovely modern hotel set in one of the most beautiful places on earth! My room was perfect. It was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The view was my favorite part..it was breathtaking! The staff was warm and friendly and extremely helpful with great recommendations. The breakfast was the absolute best meal with everything fresh and delicious. The location was so convenient to everything St. Moritz had to offer. The shuttle rides to and from the train station made getting there a breeze. I loved the many choices of places to dine on the premises and the musical entertainment. Anna at the spa was fantastic! She customized a massage and facial to my unique needs that left me feeling like a million bucks. The amenities are world class. Greatest experience ever!

Disappointing Contrast

Disappointing Contrast
Our stay at Hotel Laudinella was defined by a striking contrast between the impressive public areas and the disappointing condition of the room itself.
Upon arrival, the hotel makes an excellent first impression. The lobby, restaurants and common areas are spacious, elegant and well maintained. Everything feels inviting and creates the expectation of a comfortable four-star experience. The restaurants and shared facilities in particular have a modern and appealing atmosphere, suggesting a hotel that takes pride in providing quality for its guests.
Unfortunately, that positive impression disappeared the moment we entered our room.
The room was relatively small and furnished with old, heavily worn pine furniture. The wardrobes and storage spaces looked so dated and battered that I genuinely did not feel comfortable placing my clothes inside them. Paint was peeling from the bathroom door, and the skirting boards showed signs that looked very much like previous water damage. The overall impression was one of neglect and a lack of investment in maintenance.
The bathroom was equally disappointing. It felt tired and outdated, there were numerous insects visible in the ceiling area, and the soap dispenser did not function. While the room appeared reasonably clean, cleanliness alone cannot compensate for the general state of disrepair.
What makes the experience particularly frustrating is the enormous gap between the beautiful public spaces and the quality of the accommodation itself. The hotel advertises and presents itself as a comfortable higher-end property, yet the room felt more comparable to something one might encounter in a basic one- or two-star hotel.
It was genuinely disappointing to arrive at such attractive surroundings only to find a room that fell so far below expectations. With rooms renovated to the same standard as the lobby and restaurants, this could be an excellent hotel. In its current state, however, the contrast is simply too great to ignore. The room was the defining part of our stay, and unfortunately it left us disappointed.

Outside of St. Moritz, many restaurants in the building, suites that are not really suites

The Laudinella is a modern, well-maintained, and very large hotel. We stayed here during our Glacier and Bernina Express trip. The hotel is located outside of St. Moritz, which is not a disadvantage, as we found St. Moritz to be a terrible place (the "town center": dead, no local spots, just a café, and on the main street only stores from Cartier, Prada, Gucci, etc.). However, at Hotel Laudinella, there were several very good restaurants - including two Asian, one Italian, and around the corner a very good Swiss restaurant connected to the hotel. We really did not have to leave the hotel for meals. Prices are naturally rather high - but that is the case everywhere in the gastronomy sector in Switzerland. Through the evening business receptions by companies in the lobby and later in the restaurants, the hotel takes on the character of a business hotel. The large Asian groups, which one can avoid during dinner thanks to the very good restaurant offerings, have additionally shaped the character of the establishment. However, when enjoying the very good breakfast buffet, one should choose times when the Asian friends have moved on (after 9 AM). The staff was consistently very friendly and competent - even though they forgot to hand us the Engadin card at check-in, which allows free use of all trains (except for the Glacier and Bernina Express). Also the mountain railways. Without the Engadin card, we incurred significant losses - but received one dinner.
One thing must be mentioned: The hotel has a strange classification of the room category "suites." We booked the "Superior" category and received a "suite" as an upgrade at check-in: It was a mini-room (I believe No. 251) newly furnished, but with a raw wooden wall right between the bed and a corridor (!!) to the shower with the sink and the closet/shelf opposite. Thank goodness the restroom is not also in the hallway. I have never experienced anything like this on any of my many travels. Catastrophe! I immediately rejected that and received another "suite": a completely normal room (No. 468) - with a road construction site underneath. For hotels, there is a very clear definition for suites, briefly summarized: a high-quality two-room apartment, etc. At the reception, I only saw shrugging shoulders when I pointed this out: "For us, these are suites." So be careful when booking.

Es freut uns zu lesen, dass Ihnen die Vielfalt unseres kulinarischen Angebots, die Freundlichkeit unseres Teams und die zentrale Lage unseres Hauses gefallen haben.
Wir bedauern jedoch sehr, dass es bei der Zimmerkategorie zu einem Missverständnis gekommen ist und das als Upgrade gedachte Angebot nicht den Mehrwert gebracht hat, den Sie erwartet haben. Unsere neu erstellten Apartments sind in die beiden Kategorien „The Suites“ (1. bis 4. Stock) und „The View“ (5. bis 6. Stock) unterteilt. Dabei gibt es unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten der Zimmergestaltung, so verfügen einige Einheiten über einen separaten Wohn- und Schlafbereich und entsprechen damit dem klassischen Suitenverständnis, während andere als moderne, renovierte Doppelzimmer innerhalb dieser Kategorie genutzt werden.
Wir verstehen, dass die Bezeichnung „The Suites“ bei Ihnen die Erwartung einer klassischen Suite mit getrenntem Wohn- und Schlafbereich geweckt hat. Bei Ihrem Zimmer handelte es sich jedoch um ein renoviertes Doppelzimmer dieser Kategorie, das zwar modern ausgestattet ist, aber nicht über einen separaten Wohnbereich verfügt.
Viele Gäste empfinden diese Zimmer dennoch als schönes Upgrade, insbesondere aufgrund der modernen Ausstattung und des hohen Komforts. Wir verstehen aber gut, dass für Gäste, denen ein grosszügiger Wohnbereich oder mehr Platz besonders wichtig ist, diese Kategorie nicht die gewünschte Erwartung erfüllen kann.
Ihre Rückmeldung nehmen wir sehr ernst und arbeiten aktuell daran, die Darstellung und Kommunikation unserer Zimmerkategorien sowie die Abläufe rund um Upgrades noch klarer zu gestalten, damit unsere Gäste bereits vor der Anreise genau wissen, welche Kategorie am besten zu ihren Bedürfnissen passt.
Ausserdem tut es uns sehr leid, dass die Engadin-Karte bei Ihrer Anreise nicht direkt ausgehändigt wurde. Wir verstehen, dass diese Karte einen wichtigen Mehrwert für die Erkundung der Region bietet.

Stayed one night after riding the Glacier Express,
Good location for a lovely walk around the lake, supermarkets near by if needed,
Monastic but good for an overnight stay.
Breakfast was plentiful

St. Moritz, we will return.

Everything has been excellent, the room was clean, and the breakfast was very tasty. Thanks to Agustina for the cappuccinos she made for us. They were the best we have ever tried. The transfer to the train station is an excellent service.
