Top hotel with views of Lugano

Very nice hotel. View spectacular!
Great bar, wellness, Japanese teppan restaurant mega and exceptionally rich breakfast.
Parking right next to the hotel and in summer a nice terrace.
We're looking forward to it.

Nice hotel, shame about the steep hillside location.

This is a nice hotel but in the wrong location unless you have a car. Our travel agent told us this hotel was at the side of Lake Lugano but in fact it is up a very steep hill and it was difficult to find. We were told to get off the train at Paradiso train station because it is close to the hotel. The first problem is that you cannot see the hotel from the station and each of the station’s two platforms has an exit going in a different direction with no indication which is right for the hotel and of course we took the wrong one! The right one is over the bridge as though you are changing platforms. Get to the end of the bridge and turn right up the hill. Across the road you will see a sign for the hotel pointing up a long set of steps. This is what they call the back entrance to the hotel and in my view is impossible with suitcases but ok to walk down from the hotel itself to get towards the lake. Unless you are fit enough for the the steps carry on walking up the steep hill, around the 360 degree left turn at the top, continuing uphill round a couple of right angle bends after which you come to the top of the hotel’s steep drive. At this point you are almost above the hotel. Walk down the drive and you will come to the hotel entrance. Of course if you have a car then getting to the hotel is no problem as there is plenty of parking and even electric chargers. Turning to the hotel itself once you get inside it is very nice with an indoor swimming pool and our room was large and comfortable with a good view over the lake and mountains. The restaurant has a terrace and in good weather you can sit outside on the terrance and eat with a view of the lake. Breakfast is ok with a fair amount of choice but we found the pots of tea and coffee only lukewarm (typical English wanting hot tea and coffee!) the other problem for us with the restaurant is the dinner menu. We expected local cuisine, probably a lot of pasta dishes as this is in the Italian speaking part of Italy and there is indeed a very limited choice Italian menu, but there is also a large Japanese menu which looked expensive to us. Quite why they offer a Japanese menu I have no idea. On the plus side of you don’t have a car is something called a Ticino ticket which the hotel will supply and which gives free rides on local transport including buses, local trains and the funicular up to Lugano train station from the centre of Lugano. There is a bus stop right at the top of the hotel drive and this is very useful for getting into town and back from town if you don’t want to walk along the lake, but beware, buses are few and far between after 8.00pm and sometimes don’t run at all. We took about 6 taxis in a 6 days stay. Overall I have marked the hotel down because of its steep uphill access, not because of the facilities or views. The climb up the hill is too much for two people in their mid 70s. My recommendation is not to try getting to the hotel from Paradiso train station but in fact take a taxi from Lugano train station instead. This will cost 25/30 Sfr but is very worthwhile.

Very nice hotel and personnel.
Location and views to the lake were very good, room was spacious and clean. Food in the restaurant was very good, too.
Personnel were helpful and attentive with a positive attitude.

Lovely family stay

Great location with a fantastic view across Lugano bay and not far from the funicular up San Salvatore. The room was spacious with a good fold down bed for my son in a lounge area and separate bed room for us. The breakfast was really excellent with a large quality choice. My son used the gym and pool. There was a bus stop outside the hotel and with the free Ticino travel pass an easy way to get to and from the centre. The walk around the bay is very pleasant so we only used it a couple of times.

Perfect

Perfect room with 2 balconies, outdoor or covered parking, beautiful views, easily accessible from the highway, very friendly staff, and great breakfast (although a bit expensive). This will be my hotel in Lugano.
