nicely presented rooms in historic inner-city hotel

The hotel is in the centre of Neuchatel, just below the castle. It is located in a historic building and has cosy and very nicely presented rooms. Bathrooms and showers are shared between some three rooms or so. We did not mind this and like the small and friendly place very much.

Does the job for one night, nothing more.

Like other countries, staying in cities in Switerland is dearer than staying in the countryside. Neuchatel is no exception. The advantages of staying here is that it is very central, the bathroom and shower are amazing (bathroom is big and airy) and the room is spacious. If you are not there by 6, the details will be waiting for you inside as the cafe is closed.
However this room is also weirdly laid out. There is a sofa and comfortable chairs but no TV which is a no-no for myself. It has a Air B&B feel to the place. Somebody was leaving for the evening and gave the room to myself. It feels very bare and with no pictures (surely this is what this hotel is about - making it a warm feeling, instead of cold and unwelcoming which I felt)
Breakfast was not included and for 130 CHF I felt myself a little ripped off by the experience. I parked in a local parking house for 19 CHF for 15 hours which was good value. Everything was quiet at the breakfast area and after paying the bill I was glad to be out and I won't be coming back.

A peaceful weekend in Neuchatel

Simple but central hotel in Neuchatel. Beautiful building but disappointing inside could have a lot more character. Very basic but still comfortable. Soundproofing between rooms non-existent. We had a room with a shower and bathroom, which is not the case with all of them. Possibility of teleworking at the café. Coffee on the ground floor which is 100% organic which doesn't always mean good. Basic and very frugal breakfast. Just cheese samples. Homemade bread but not fantastic. I also tasted soups and other dishes that were really not tasty. You have to like ultra simple things without too much taste. Organic is good but well cooked is better. Too bad because otherwise the place is super nice and friendly. The staff is friendly.

I stayed at Le Café Aubier in Neuchatel from July 9-17, 2023. I attended the International Association of Hispanists (AIH) Conference, and it was one of the hotels suggested by the AIH. While the hotel is well-located in downtown Neuchatel near restaurants, bars, and tourist sites, it is not a 3-star hotel. It is a hostel. Temperatures soared from 27 to 36 degrees with 85 to 90% humidity. The hotel does not have air conditioning, and you can only open one inch of the windows due to insurance regulations. Thus, I was suffocating in that room and could not sleep due to the heat and the noise produced not only by the partygoers until 2 in the morning but also by the city cleaners who washed the streets at 6 am every day. The staff brought us an electric fan, which helped, but sometimes it was cooler outside than inside the room.
My bathroom was like a closet, so water spilled everywhere when I showered. There is no permanent staff at the property. You have to get a code in advance to get in. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, so there wasn't anybody around. Luckily my code worked well. If my friend had tried to enter the property earlier, she would've been left on the street because her code did not work. It is a costly hotel, and it would've been worth paying an extra 20 Swiss Francs to get into a better hotel.

Great organic hotel and café

Great price - quality value. I stayed one night, on a business trip. Perfect situation half way to the lake from the station, in the middle of the town, simple and clean hotel. Very good breakfast, nice staff.
