Beautiful place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay at Pension Olanda. David was very friendly and helpful, and great with our kids. We had the family room and it worked well for us all. The breakfast was excellent. Friendly feel in the B&B. And location was good, the buses were easy to use and ran every 30 mins, dropping off right opposite the B&B / always on time. Beautiful views over the lake. Just make sure you bring mosquito repellant (for all of Locarno). Would recommend!

Unfortunately, not what it used to be.
Well we stayed 5 days in the pension, as we have done so many times in the past, also in the same room as usual.
The first impression and contact was promising. It stayed that way and unfortunately the impressions were only directed in the negative direction.
Check in at 17:00, no one on site just a form to sign and a note where the room is located with the necessary info. Very impersonal and actually unpleasant, because with this size of pension you expect something personal - just like Andrea Ott used to.
Room service is not available, only the trash can was emptied, the beds were not made and a toilet cleaning was consistently refrained from. If you stay for 5 days I expect this service, especially at a price of CHF 140.-p/N. Breakfast: was much praised, which I cannot confirm. No local products (except for the homemade jams and eggs) cheapest cheese, avocado (needs 100 liters of water to ripen), coconut and bad filter coffee just to name a few examples. Every day the same (unrefrigerated) vegetable cake, cold scrambled eggs and for most articles you had to ask regularly if there was anything left of it, because the buffet was poorly looked after or not at all. You don't really feel welcome either, hardly a greeting in the morning (except on the first day, when Davide introduced herself and greeted us) at the lady's on the 3rd. Day we assumed it was probably the boss... very reserved and not a winning personality.
Check out: no question whether we liked it, the only interest was whether we wrote down all the drinks that have to be paid. The lady in the kitchen did not feel it necessary to say goodbye in person, which only inspires our impression even more. It is now just an anonymous, self check in accommodation that has lost all its personality and charm. Furthermore, I find it very sad how the cat they took over from Andrea is kept. Can't get inside the house because the cat door is locked. In this weather she should be able to find shelter somewhere and not just left to her own devices!!!
For us, this was certainly the last visit to Pensione Olanda, as price and performance are no longer right.

A place to relax, enjoy views, just great!
Breathtaking views, relaxed atmosphere, certainly extremely pleasant in midsummer as many trees in the area, great breakfast (small but fine, with partly homemade specialties), very quiet (we stayed in the "Villa" with two double bedrooms, each room has its own bathroom)... From now on our favourite place to stay in Locarno!

Relaxation over Locarno
We have been there as a group of 6 people and had a good time. You can enjoy the view from above, breakfast is always with fresh bread and the rooms are cute, each one is different. From Locarno you reach that place with the bus Nr.3 or by cable-care in direction to Madonna del Sasso and a little ealk down the road. You have to reserve the rooms as she only has 10 rooms to rent. Calling to check the availability is preferred

Outstanding B&B, Fantastic Location
To call this charming bed and breakfast a hillside pensione with a great view is to understate the facts. First, the hill is more like a cliff. Second, the pensione itself, ever so well maintained and appointed by its able innkeeper, Andrea, is beyond charming. The rooms are clean and elegant, and the entire establishment has a flare that is both intimate and lovely. Third, the “great view” is better described as stunning, and it is surrounded by elements of class and style. Andrea’s breakfast terrace looks down some 500 vertical feet onto the aqua colors of Lago Maggiore below, and across the lake are dark green hills that jump from the opposite shore. The terrace is topped with a shady grape arbor. When we visited at the end of August, it was bursting with delicious Concord grapes. Then, as if to gild the lily, the view from the terrace is framed by tall palm trees that stand like pillars set in Andrea’s tiered garden below. Yes, the word “charming” does not do it justice.
Beyond the view, we found Andrea and her staff friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. As to the only possible down-side of its location – the fact that you have to go uphill to get there – do not be daunted. Although I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the climb up the steep stairs from Locarno’s old city up to the pensione – “only a kilometer’s walk” up the hill – except for those who are fit and able, and although I definitely would not attempt it with luggage, yet do not lose heart. For those trying to trim costs, the pensione sits right at a bus stop. Locarno’s efficient buses will carry you directly there or back to town, and a special card given to you when you check into the pensione means you can take the bus for free within the city core. If a bus is not handy when headed uphill, a taxi from the city center will land you at the pensione in a matter of minutes. If you have a car, then you have no worries, but you will want to get used to narrow winding roads with lots of hairpin turns. The last possible option to get up the hill without climbing steps is to take the funicular railway. Although it might seem charming at first, it is not as convenient as a bus or a taxi. It is still a 10 minute walk between the uphill funicular station and the pensione, and the funicular’s schedule is nowhere as convenient as the bus.
In short, we highly recommend this lovely spot. My only regret is we did not spend longer there!
