First is a Must Stay place!
The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was beautiful and so lovely to be up at First after the last gondola went down. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The location was gorgeous. The food was fantastic and the overall stay was fantastic value. A special thank you to Wolf for going the extra mile to make our stay wonderful.

Speechless
This accommodation is an imposition, at least if you stay in the Jungfrau dormitory. If you expect peace and quiet in the mountains - at over 2000 m - then you will be very disappointed here. The music is very loud, even after all the day guests have left. Especially the bass makes it impossible to get any rest. It feels like being in a disco that you cannot escape. I would not have thought that something like this exists in the mountains. Terrible. Despite multiple requests, it happened again every evening.

Some fondue with a view
A wonderful panoramic view of the Eiger Mountain range at the top of a 25 minute cable car ride. Walking trails, observation decks, and other outdoor activities along with a gift shop. Perfect place for some fondue and stunning views.

Very expensive and full of carcinogenic additives
The location is exceptional, magnificent views of a breathtaking mountain area, walks ok (not enough benches and toilets on the way), good bedding, very serious room staff, sanitary ok on the other hand breakfast is not good, industrial food stuffed with carcinogenic additives, no individual yogurts, nutella and jam that is not enough to put on frozen croissants! BEURK!!!. Hygiene from a general point of view is not good, guests touch cheese with their fingers to cut it for example, bottom flies on food, no charlotte on heads in the kitchen. For the Self it's the same thing, not good at all, low-end canteen food and the restaurant ESPECIALLY to avoid, it's WORSE: disgusting and OVERPRICED imposed menu!!! is to make fun of the world! We had the feeling of being priced hostage to the proposed restoration! Not even someone to make pancakes, waffles, no potato omelet either, the better BRING YOUR PICNIC!!! For us not possible we stayed 4 nights, especially do not do this, 1 night max and YOUR food, really very disappointed on this side, they wish you to take out your CB and sell you a gross and overpriced food, shameful and disappointed

An absolute gem—this place is a Swiss travel cheat code!
This is a really unique place to stay. The attraction of staying here isn’t the room or the facilities (although they are very clean and more than adequate). The reason you stay here is so that you can have Grindelwald First essentially ALL TO YOURSELF. First is one of the most popular attractions in the Jungfrau region and during the day it packs with tourists going on all the rides and stuffing the Skywalk with long lines. Well, the last gondola down the mountain stops running roughly some time between 5 and 6 pm, and doesn’t start running again until 8 am. So in between that time there’s only the hotel/restaurant staff and a handful of guest parties. I cannot even adequately describe with words how enjoyable and peaceful it is to stand out there on the Skywalk all by myself just soaking in the majesty of the views without being rushed. Another huge bonus—the weather in the Jungfrau region during summertime is often rainy and cloudy. You might get lucky with a perfectly clear and sunny day, but you might also get an entire week of rain and clouds which basically wipe out views. But even in an unlucky week of rain when we visited, the EARLY mornings on the mountains are oftentimes relatively clear—and that is the best time you get on the mountain if you stay here! I was up early just after dawn and it was clear enough to see the mountain peaks. It was spectacular. I had the entire place literally all to myself for 90 minutes before another family came out on the Skywalk briefly.
Another huge advantage if you want to do all the fun stuff on First is that you can easily be the first people in line to do the First Flyer, Glider, Trottibikes, or Mountain Carts! Why stand in line for hours when the crowds get there? You can either do the rides right before closing when most people have gone down the mountain or even better be literally the first person in line for the rides before anyone can even get there! The First Flyer station is a short walk down a hill right outside the hotel. Once you go down the flyer you just hop onto the glider or trottibikes at Schreckfeld! Do you want to hike to Bachalpsee Lake? Do it before (or after) anyone else can and have the entire place to yourself!
So as far as the accommodations go, it’s kind of a no frills hostel. The beds and comforters were comfortable enough. There are shared bathrooms/showers. The food is…not great. We had dinner and then breakfast the next morning there as it’s really the only option. They do have good beer and the service was friendly. If you have dietary pickiness, consider bringing some of your own food!
Overall the experience of basically having Grindelwald First to yourself makes this place worth 5 stars. In a world where travel usually involves dealing with massive crowds, it’s a rare experience.
