Charming older hotel

Järnvägshotellet in Gävle is a charming older hotel with a very good location right in central Gävle, just opposite the train station. Check-in is smooth because you use a code to get in, making your stay flexible and easy.
The room was clean and fresh. The hotel has shared shower and toilet facilities that are shared with other guests, which can be useful to know when booking. Despite this, the common areas were clean and well maintained.
Breakfast was good with a nice selection that gave a good start to the day. All in all, this is an affordable and practical accommodation for those looking for a simple hotel with a central location in Gävle.

Totally missed that this was not a "hotel", it is a a bed and breakfast with no toilet or shower in the room. Also an old building with very bad sound dampening between rooms and to the corridor. Without doubt I would add a few hundred SEK to get a hotel room instead.

Well, there will be no more times

Stayed one night and liked how easy it was with code locks to the doors.
The rooms were pretty old style, decent bed anyway.
Sick responsive. Heavy doors slam.
Sleep with earplugs if you're sound sensitive like me.
Shared shower area felt old and quite unfresh. There's work to be done.
Breakfast was good. No hot food but still yoghurt and stuff.

This is a hostel, not a hotel, and it's a grungy one.
The room smelled of dust and decades old cigarette smoke. You could hear everything going on in the whole hostel. The rooms do not have bathrooms, those are shared.
The furniture in the rolm was old and gross, not shabby chic, just shabby. The bed was ok, surprisingly.
The only thing this place has going for it is that it's close to the train station.
Did not try the breakfast since I just wanted to get out and away from the place.

No reception desk, so arriving is impersonal (and needed a phone call to be texted entry details), but the property once inside is snug, nicely decorated and the room I stayed in was well appointed. I had a view over the front, facing the station, which was noisy in the early (Friday) evening but quietened down at a respectable time.
I found the place charming. Loos and showers are communal but there are plenty. Breakfast was delicious - the bread in particular was some of the best I've ever had.
