Fabulous.
I was undecided wether to book or not after reading some reviews however I am not a fussy person and thought id give it a try as it was a last minute decision to even go to Whitby.
The hotel sent me a message after receiving my booking and told me they'd chose me a nice room and hoped I'd have a nice stay.
I thought that was a lovely touch.
On arrival I was told id been given an upgrade by a lovely reception.
I was over the moon and when I opened the door to my room I was blown away.
Four poster bed looking right onto the Abbey ,very sleek and modern and had prosecco on ice waiting in a champagne bucket.
I couldn't fault one thing.
My key allowed me to use an alternate door leading to outside if I didnt want to walk through the hotel.
Breakfast was plentiful, enough choices and the sausages were so nice.
The fat badger bar in the hotel is lovely, i love all the dark mysterious colours. Looks very classy.
Shall I be back??? Absolutely.
Dont be thrown by the negative reviews, the place is clean, tidy and has lovely staff.
You shouldn't be bound to the hotel if you're in Whitby but the hotel is a pleasant place to go back to after a day out

Yearly Whitby trip

Just arrived home . This was our fourth visit to this hotel . Loved having a room on the ground floor however it was very dated . I realise that over the last two years the hotel is having a major revamp so understandably these things take time . Our bedroom had an heavily stained carpet , Rust on the plughole in the bath and on the radiator . The linen and the room were spotlessly clean .
The food was lovely in the restaurant but the female blonde manager clearly was having a bad day . Twice my husband acknowledged her and said good morning but he was ignored . Not good customer service .
The beauty of this hotel are the stunning views and this is one of the reasons we return yearly. Just hoping that next year the scaffolding will be down and all the rooms will have had their refresh .

Hi Krystle_@, Thanks for your feedback and continued custom at the hotel. We are upgrading the hotel and have completed 60 of the 142 bedrooms, restaurant, bar, coffeeshop, reception, 2 new toilets and a new lift. We hope to improve all areas of the hotel over the next few years. (If guests would like a refurbished room, please book a Deluxe, Family or Four Poster) There is scaffolding to one section of the hotel as we complete external repairs and redecoration. Wait till the hotel is renovated fully

We were here on a coach trip for 4 nights. The hotel is being renovated, which it needs.
The hotel is painted inside a very dark charcoal colour which is quite depressing and makes the whole atmosphere dark. The smell of paint was obvious.
There is scaffolding along one side that faces the sea...so you get a scaffolding view...not a sea view.
We were made to eat in the ballroom which had no windows and no atmosphere. The sevice was poor even though we'd had to pre-order the meals. They let us use the main restaurant at breakfast, which was a very different experience. Great food and choice and good service.
Our room was too hot and the radiators wouldn't turn off or down. The room was ok and comfortable except for the heat.
Staff on the whole were friendly but not all. Some looked bored and treated us as if we were an inconvenience.
My view overall is that this hotel isn't geared up for coach parties.
The hotel is in a good location and overlooks the town. If you can't walk far or up and down hills, it isn't for you. We were ok with this.
My advice would be to avoid until the renovations are complete which is 3 years off.

Booked 2 twin rooms for the weekend, easy check in,staff friendly, rooms big,and clean, very nice stay.

Clean, no frills room. Unfortunately noisy seagull noise from 4am onwards due to single pane glass windowd
