A Great Place To Stay

A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. The breakfast was plentiful and served with a smile. My only negative is the lack of air conditioning in the bedroom which would have made it more comfortable for my 2 dogs.

Beautiful location but unfortunately our stay could have been better this time.

We have stayed at the Lodge Hotel previously and had an amazing experience with both staff and facilities. Unfortunately this time didn't seem as magical as before. The room was quite tired with some noticeable wear and tear marks. The sink had a crack in which looked like it had tried to be repaired but not very successfully and the shower leaked (understandable for an older property). Unfortunately our replenished items (Tissues, Showergel etc) had not been replenished which meant we had been left with an empty tissue box after using two tissues. The showergel was empty but luckily we had brought our own. We had been provided with water and glasses but feel as it has been so hot recently we would have benefitted from another bottle as we had three people staying in our room. We were advised we could ask for more from the bar but as we were on the third floor with a toddler and pregnant adult this wasn't always feasible. Dinner on first night was lovely and service was very quick with very approachable staff but unfortunately breakfast was not. We had to ask for replenishments of numerous items, the coffee machine seemed to be playing up both daysand the toaster just doesn't seem to work. On our last day one of the cooked breakfasts we had ordered had to be sent back to the kitchen as it was cold. We had not been advised that this would be reheated as my husband received the same meal he has already eaten from. This wasn't an issue as such but would have been nice to be told that they would be reheating (presumably in a microwave- which again isn't an issue).The swimming pool was out of use for the whole of our stay and although we had a phone call advising us of this we had planned to use it. We were advised they had hoped it would be resolved within the same day but on speaking to other guests it has been out of order for a few days prior to our booking. All staff are very welcoming but you need more as one of your staff members appeared to be taking on every duty within the lodge ( Unfortunately did not catch her name ) Overall we did have a lovely stay due to the location being convenient for us but other areas did let it down this time. I do not think the stay was worth the money we paid on this occasion and on checking out the reception was too busy to bring up with staff who already seemed to be quite overwhelmed. Would and have previously recommended to family and friends and hoping some of these issues can be resolved before their stays.Thank you

I am very sorry that a number of areas fell below the standards we would expect, particularly the condition of the room, missing bathroom amenities and the breakfast service. These are all points we need to address, and I will ensure your comments are shared with the relevant teams.
I am also sorry that the pool remained unavailable during your stay. I appreciate this was disappointing, particularly as you had planned to use it, and we are currently in the process of refurbishing the pool as part of our ongoing investment in the hotel.

Stay

When we arrived we didn't receive a warm welcome. No proof of booking was asked for and we got told she can't remember how to get to the room so follow the signs in which the corridor was dark and dingy room was dirty with cobwebs on wall, stain on carpet and blood stain on cushion. Dead spider squished on floor alongside the drawer handle falling off in are hands when we opened the drawer. We then visited the pool where it looked nothing like the photos online. Radiators were no longer on the wall leaving broken plaster behind, rust all around the railing and on the doors, pool did not look inviting at all so chose not to use. I went to complain at reception however it was left unattended. I then went back and complained to which we were finally upgraded to a nicer room where we got value for are money.

Lovely building & grounds

After being emailed for feedback from the hotel, I offered suggestions, hoping it might help... In short, much better plumbing (a working shower would have been appreciated) and better window coverings (wonky & poor covering, that let in lots of light, meaning a dawn awakening)... More experienced, confident and proactive reception staffing too... There seemed a real lack of any overall management... An overall sense of things not being 'held together' or overseen... For a beautiful historic house and grounds and one not easily affordable for many, they could definitely improve.. (Also provide much better coffee!)... It was otherwise a comfortable and lovely room... Staff were friendly enough when I could find one, but they generally seemed very uncertain and quiet...It felt like there was a disconnected collection of staff, trying to get their various jobs done, without visible or active managerial support. And overall, it all felt a bit strange for such an upmarket place.

Needs some love

Could be as nice as any of the other top hotels in the area but needs alot of love. It was dirty, old bedding, curtains didnt fit the window and swimming pool area looked like a 90s horror film location.

I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations, Bartley Lodge is a beautiful location and is certainly loved, we have recently refreshed our bedrooms, we use fresh linen on all of our beds many of which have recently had new mattresses. We are currently in the process of refreshing our pool room, although this project has been paused during the summer to allow our guests to cool off in the pool after a hot day enjoying the New Forest and surrounding areas.
