Not a good place to stay

Dreadful, photos are from years ago, do not be fooled by them. Stains on floor, tatty carpet, pretty dirty, curtains don’t fully close, lights not working.
The bed was comfy and bedlinen clean, but no mattress of pillow protectors.
Was close to the town and beach

First stolen our tent on first night. Mould in bathroom, shower door won’t close. Carpet dirty with stain all over, looks like never been vacuumed. Broken vanity chair. Stained towels. Kettle had really bad lime scale inside of it and dirty with white stuff on the outside. Broken hot water tap. Stained on bedroom railings. I’ve got pictures to show. Paid £17 VAT added Since the room is £40.

Horrible place. Do not stay.

What a DUMP! It may be cheap but it’s not even worth that. There have been no people around to help at all. When we arrived we couldn’t get in, there was a number on the door and we called but no one answered. Another resident let us in. The room key was in a lockbox outside. The bedroom was shoddy and the carpet had stains. The mattresses had no protectors on them and the pillows were grim. Directly outside the building there is a bench and there are always people sitting there and smoking and talking loud late at night and early in the morning. Rubbish stay was a terrible experience. Very disappointed.

Never again!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this hotel deserves a mention—and unfortunately, not for the right reasons.
On arrival, the outside of the building looked as though it had given up several years ago. The paint was peeling from the woodwork, the plants looked like they were pleading for mercy, and the whole place had an air of "abandoned guesthouse" rather than welcoming hotel.
To give credit where it's due, the lady on reception was friendly and pleasant. Sadly, she was fighting a losing battle. The entrance and reception area featured a dark red carpet that had clearly seen more than its fair share of life and now looked as though it was simply hanging on out of habit.
I'd booked five rooms for our group, and the expressions on everyone's faces as we opened the doors said it all. There wasn't a single room that escaped without a catalogue of problems.
My room boasted a single bed complete with what I can only describe as a decorative cushion masquerading as a pillow. Instead of a bedside table, I was provided with what appeared to be a retired coffee table exiled to the corner of the room.
The ensuite was an experience in itself. The shower cubicle came complete with mould between the tiles, while the sink had apparently been evicted from the bathroom altogether and was living at the foot of the bed in a vanity unit that was missing chunks of wood. Interior design clearly isn't their strong point.
Apart from the main ceiling light, every other light fitting had apparently decided to go on strike. I also chose not to touch the curtains, partly because they looked as though they might collapse in protest, and partly because ignorance felt like bliss.
The other four rooms were equally inventive. We discovered dirty drinking glasses, sticky carpets, holes in the curtains and enough maintenance issues to keep a handyman busy for months.
To be fair, not everything was bad. There was plenty of hot water, and the towels and bedding appeared clean and professionally laundered. That said, I found myself wondering what horrors might be lurking beneath the spotless sheets. My eyesight isn't brilliant without my glasses, and for once I decided that remaining slightly short-sighted was probably in my best interests.
The funniest part of the whole experience came before we'd even unpacked. We bumped into a group of ladies staying there before the same concert we were attending. After taking one look around, one of them described the hotel in language that certainly wouldn't make the brochure. Let's just say it involved two words beginning with "S" and "H". It wasn't elegant, but after seeing our rooms, it was difficult to argue with her review.
This hotel is crying out for a complete refurbishment. The receptionist was lovely, but friendliness alone can't disguise years of neglect. If you're looking for luxury, comfort or even basic upkeep, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. If, however, you've ever wondered what it might feel like to spend a night on the set of a low-budget horror film, this could be just the place.
Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Shabby and dirty, poor welcome !

The only positive part of this stay is that it was 5 minutes drive from the Open Air Theatre where I was going later that evening. The person who 'welcomed' me was sullen, did not smile and handed me the keys. Contact numbers on wall as the hotel is unmanned after check-in and key box on wall to deposit when you leave. Dirty carpets throughout, no handle on the front door and shabby interior (makeshift seat with a bit of material thrown on it). Door to left before you climb stairs to first floor had sheets and general supplies on chairs and general debris. Room was ok but could have been cleaner. Only one cup and one glass and one towel supplied, no teaspoon. Only the hot tap in the bathroom worked, no cold water in cold tap. An open bin in bathroom, which I felt was not appropriate for hygiene reasons. When asked for another cup, glass and teaspoon, they brought another towel and a pint glass.; again no customer service. Extremely noisy from people above; no obvious soundproofing when walking across floor above. This continued on our return with same residents shouting, crying and talking loudly and same noise from noise from floor. By almost 2am, noise was still continuing and with rules saying 10am checkout, we decided we would drive the 80 miles home instead of staying and risking no sleep at all. I have stayed at the Grand Hotel and considered it the worst hotel I had ever stayed at. This hotel has now taken first place. Much of the issues could be dealt with by cleaning, better customer care and a bit of D.I.Y. Whilst I accept it is a budget hotel, we would have been happy with clean and basic, neither of which we feel this place offers. It seems to be surrounded by student lets but is in a good location and I do feel it might have been bought for getting money in for people like myself going to the open air theatre and not expecting any repeat bookings.
