Not a good place to stay
The bed was comfy and bedlinen clean, but no mattress of pillow protectors.
Was close to the town and beach

Never again!
On arrival, the outside of the building looked as though it had given up several years ago. The paint was peeling from the woodwork, the plants looked like they were pleading for mercy, and the whole place had an air of "abandoned guesthouse" rather than welcoming hotel.
To give credit where it's due, the lady on reception was friendly and pleasant. Sadly, she was fighting a losing battle. The entrance and reception area featured a dark red carpet that had clearly seen more than its fair share of life and now looked as though it was simply hanging on out of habit.
I'd booked five rooms for our group, and the expressions on everyone's faces as we opened the doors said it all. There wasn't a single room that escaped without a catalogue of problems.
My room boasted a single bed complete with what I can only describe as a decorative cushion masquerading as a pillow. Instead of a bedside table, I was provided with what appeared to be a retired coffee table exiled to the corner of the room.
The ensuite was an experience in itself. The shower cubicle came complete with mould between the tiles, while the sink had apparently been evicted from the bathroom altogether and was living at the foot of the bed in a vanity unit that was missing chunks of wood. Interior design clearly isn't their strong point.
Apart from the main ceiling light, every other light fitting had apparently decided to go on strike. I also chose not to touch the curtains, partly because they looked as though they might collapse in protest, and partly because ignorance felt like bliss.
The other four rooms were equally inventive. We discovered dirty drinking glasses, sticky carpets, holes in the curtains and enough maintenance issues to keep a handyman busy for months.
To be fair, not everything was bad. There was plenty of hot water, and the towels and bedding appeared clean and professionally laundered. That said, I found myself wondering what horrors might be lurking beneath the spotless sheets. My eyesight isn't brilliant without my glasses, and for once I decided that remaining slightly short-sighted was probably in my best interests.
The funniest part of the whole experience came before we'd even unpacked. We bumped into a group of ladies staying there before the same concert we were attending. After taking one look around, one of them described the hotel in language that certainly wouldn't make the brochure. Let's just say it involved two words beginning with "S" and "H". It wasn't elegant, but after seeing our rooms, it was difficult to argue with her review.
This hotel is crying out for a complete refurbishment. The receptionist was lovely, but friendliness alone can't disguise years of neglect. If you're looking for luxury, comfort or even basic upkeep, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. If, however, you've ever wondered what it might feel like to spend a night on the set of a low-budget horror film, this could be just the place.
Needless to say, we won't be returning.
