First Class

Visited this pub on two occasions during our yearly two week holiday to Polzeath.
My family and I visit the area with our friends and have eaten in most places locally .
This compares to anywhere that we have eaten locally , and further afield .
The Sunday roast is top and we ate from the menu through the week .
The quality of food is first class (as good as anywhere I have eaten )
The pub facilities are first class .
The staff are professional and great hosts ..
A special thanks to the chef , Penny who was our host on the Thursday and the host from the previous Sunday ( I’m ashamed to say I have forgotten her name)
10:10 … a massive thanks for putting us in a good place x

Best roast ever

I never write a review for food but the roast we had here was that incredible it deserved one.
We stopped here for for food this afternoon. It was the most amazing roast I have ever had every bit was cooked yo perfection. And dont let me get started on the cauliflower cheese was hands down the best one I have ever tasted (and I love cauliflower cheese).
Honestly if you are passing on a Sunday stop here yoi will not be disappointed.
From 3 very full satisfied girls.

Lovely Service But Poor Food

A lovely looking venue and very nice front of house staff. Unfortunately my Shepherd’s Pie was a massive let down. I know it’s a modern style of food presentation, but having to ask for a spoon to eat my Shepherd’s Pie is not acceptable (it contained almost no lamb). Even the waitress admitted that she was concerned that the meal was not up to her recommendation when delivering my food to our table. My comments were relayed to the kitchens, however there was no response or acknowledgment whatsoever from the establishment. If our experience is anything to go by, then don’t order the Shepherd’s Pie unless you’re happy using a spoon. Taste was nice but I’m feeling that I still need to go out for dinner. Very disappointed.

Poor

We are basing our review on a 4 night stay at this bed and breakfast hence the low rating.
Pros: friendly, approachable staff, good parking, pub area has good seating, good selection of drinks and a nice vibe, good evening meal, dog friendly. Room had air conditioning, sufficient shampoo, shower gel, toilet paper. Safe, kettle, iron and TV.
Cons: we booked bed and breakfast, so to our sheer disappointment shortly after checking in we were approached by a member of the bar staff letting us know - 1) that there was no chef available to cover the breakfast for our stay and that they had pastries to offer instead. Please see photos! We, we were not asked about any dietary issues. Because if they were invested in customers they would have asked! One of us cannot eat pastries so we had to spend time researching places for breakfast, luckily we found places to drive to, not ideal for everyone 2) we were also informed that if we ‘wanted’ any housekeeping we needed to give our room key ( because they didn’t have a spare key to access the rooms) to a member of staff and let them know whether we wanted fresh towels/bedding etc.
When we were ready to leave in the morning for the day out there was nobody available to request housekeeping. So we never had the opportunity at all during our stay. Ie no fresh towels bedding etc.
The floor in our room was gritty from the moment we walked in. The bathroom a little tired and shower pressure was poor. The room was small and felt closed in, not much space for luggage etc.
It felt like we were in self catering accommodation or caravan park, without the self catering facilities. We were never greeted by the owners/management, as none seemed available at all during our stay. When we checked out, we wanted to discuss our experience with one of them, sadly we had to give our key to one of the cleaners. We don’t recommend staying here, but if you want a drink or food you’ll probably have a better experience.

Sadly, a change for the worse

We have been regular diners at the Pityme Inn for many years and indeed, had our Christmas dinner there in 2025. Sadly, however, the restaurant has changed hands this year and our most recent visit has put us off ever booking there again. The meal was quite simply appalling. A Sunday roast that was inedible, quite literally, the vegetables were rock-hard and undercooked, the roast potato, cauliflower and parsnip were cold and the beef was a small piece of over-cooked and fatty stewing steak that lacked any consistency, flavour and warmth. Even the manager conceded that he had found the vegetables to be hard and inedible when he'd tried them earlier but didn't then challenge the chef about it.
We had high hopes that the new, pared-down menu would be a treat - it wasn't to be. Whether it's down to cost-cutting or that the new owners just don't care, we'd advise you book elsewhere as, for the same price, you can do so much better locally.
