Excellent stay in Reading
The hotel is modern, very clean and well maintained. Our room was spotless, and all public areas were also exceptionally clean. The staff were friendly, welcoming and always happy to help.
The room was equipped with everything we needed, including an iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The air conditioning worked perfectly, which was especially appreciated during the hot weather. The window and blackout curtain provided excellent sound and light insulation when closed.
One thing to keep in mind when choosing a room: if your room overlooks the river, it may be noisy in the evenings because there is a very popular pub and sports bar downstairs. If you prefer a quieter stay, I would recommend requesting a room facing the car park or the road instead.
The only thing missing from the room was a safe.
Breakfast was the weakest part of our stay. The selection was quite limited, and I don't think it is worth paying the full price of £17.50.
A nice bonus is the Starbucks café in the hotel lobby. There is also a complimentary drinking water station, which was very convenient, especially during the warm weather.
Overall, this is an excellent hotel that I would happily stay at again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a clean, comfortable and well-maintained place to stay in Reading.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hotel That Feels Like Coming Home
There are some hotels you stay at, and then there are hotels that become part of your travel memories. The Village Hotel Reading is definitely the latter for us.
I fell in love with Reading four years ago, and every time we return, this hotel feels a little bit like coming home. Sitting right along the River Thames, the setting is absolutely beautiful. The river walk is one of my favorite things about staying here, with gorgeous weeping willows, peaceful scenery, and incredible views of both sunrise and sunset.
It was actually during one of our stays here that I learned that the late Queen traditionally owned all the swans in England—a fun little piece of British history I’ll never forget! And there certainly isn't a shortage of them along the river. Swans, geese, and so many other birds native to the area make the riverside feel incredibly peaceful and picturesque.
We were especially lucky to be staying here during the final FIFA World Cup match, so the hotel was absolutely packed and buzzing with excitement. Despite the crowds, the service remained exceptional.
And that brings me to Daniel at the front desk, who deserves a special mention. He has quite possibly the best attitude and genuine willingness to help of anyone I have ever encountered working in a hotel. Unfortunately, the lift was out of service when we were checking out, and with four suitcases to get downstairs, I was definitely feeling overwhelmed. Without hesitation, Daniel came up to my room and helped me carry every single suitcase down.
But what meant even more to me was that he took the time to talk with me while my husband was attending his conference. He made me feel less alone and, honestly, like I had a friend who just happened to work at the hotel. That kind of genuine kindness is something you simply can't train someone to do—it comes from the person.
P.S. Daniel, I hope you had an amazing anniversary! ❤️
The hotel has also undergone renovations since our last visit, and they did an absolutely fantastic job. The updated spaces feel fresh, modern, and inviting while still maintaining the welcoming atmosphere that keeps bringing us back.
We return to this hotel every two years, and I already know we’ll be back again. There’s something incredibly special about waking up beside the Thames, watching the swans drift by, walking along the river, and knowing you're somewhere that feels familiar and welcoming.
Thank you to the entire team for another wonderful stay—and especially to Daniel for going above and beyond.
We can’t wait to come back! ❤️

Transformation done right
The refurbishment and updates have transformed what had become a rather dated property into somewhere I would genuinely choose to stay again. While Crowne Plaza is meant to feel elegant and opulent, the Village rebrand has, in my view, elevated the overall experience considerably.
The improvements extend beyond the look of the hotel: customer service, atmosphere, and even the food all feel noticeably better. A very impressive turnaround.
