Great location but poor for vegetarians
We have stayed here before and found it excellent but this visit was very mixed in fortune. The good news is that the hotel has very friendly staff and is in a lovely location. It has beautiful grounds with mature trees and is very close to a riverside walk. We were upgraded to a very large room which was lovely but sadly was above the function suite which had loud music going on until 9.30 pm which spoilt what had planned to be a quiet evening. Then we were really disappointed to find that one of the only two vegetarian dishes on the menu was unavailable, so a very poor veggie choice. We have booked again for date next May so are hoping the vegetarian choices are much improved.

I had to change room as the room hadn’t been cleaned throughly, the toilet seat wasn’t attached, the heating didn’t work, there was massive noise from some sort of heating vents outside the room, and the WiFi was patchy and slow in both rooms.
The food from the evening meal was good and the staff were friendly, but the breakfast was poor with few options in the continental side, and the Eggs Benedict I had the eggs overcooked (solid not runny yolks) and a very dry muffin.
The overall cleanliness was poor as well as the stairs looked like they had not been vacuumed in days. And there was no hotel information in the rooms or given on check in.
To say this off a ‘Boutique’ hotel is a stretch as the rooms were very basic and were largely outdated.
The WiFi was also a significant issue as in the two rooms I had the signal was poor and kept dropping. This impacted a video call I was making and also simple web browsing. The speed was good in the conservatory so they simply need to install repeaters to offer a reliable service to the rooms as well.

Convienent location and dog friendly but very dated and run down
Recently stayed whilst attending scone horse trials. Location is perfect for this event. Dog friendly which made life easier. Hotel is very dated. Bathroom has mould on the walls. Windows in the room didn’t shut properly. We had a sofa bed which wasn’t made up when we arrived. When we pulled it out to make up alot of moths and spiders came out from the cushions! Taps in the bathroom sink dripped 24/7 and bathroom door opened partially and then was blocked by the toilet. Breakfast was basic but sufficient. Hot food made to order, chef varied each morning. One morning sausages burnt the next anemic!! The chairs at breakfast were broken and the arm of the chair ripped a jumper where it was broken and we didn’t realise until after sitting. We ate at the hotel in the evening once, seated in the conservatory area. Very cold and noisy. Raining outside and was dripping down the window onto the ledge inside! When we checked in the lady behind the desk was very friendly and helpful and welcoming. The evening female reception staff member was totally opposite when we asked for clean towels she was busy eating behind the desk and told us we had to wait whilst she finished! Surely if you’re on a break don’t serve guests and sit elsewhere?! Convienent location and the fact it was dog friendly was the main benefit and reading we booked but hotel in need of attention and updating and having looked at the prices to rebook for scone horse trials next year we will be considering alternatives in the area. Charging high end prices but we’ve had cleaner rooms at the travel lodge for half the price!!

Nothing Boutique about this hotel
We were given a “suite” across the car park. It was very basic, dark and dingy. It certainly wasn’t what I expected from a “suite’. In dire need of refurbishment. The bathroom was awful - thank goodness for the warning stickers above the hot tap in the sink as the hot water was scalding and impossible to even wash your hands. How a hotel gets away with having hot water like that I don’t know. Our daughter was on a sofa bed which was uncomfortable and looked like she might fall through. The bed was comfortable. That’s about it’s only redeeming feature. I have never visited a hotel before that has Pot Noodle behind reception!

Not a well maintained hotel - very tired, and very basic. Not clean and needs some serious refurbishment.
