Hikers’ perfect stay

We really enjoyed the park like setting, the clean room and tasty breakfast. But all the extra touches make it special for hikers. We enjoyed the hikers’ dinner - baked potato topped with beans and cheese. We appreciated the drying room and all the Wainwright memorabilia. The team there made us feel very welcome! Highly recommend this place.

Terrible “continental breakfast “

We stayed in the recently installed shepherds huts in the garden while walking the Coast-to-coast. The location and riverside area is lovely and the shepherds huts are clean and comfortable. However, the “continental breakfast” was appalling - only cereal or instant porridge. No juice, bread, fruit, cheese or cold meat. Instant coffee. Those staying in the house had a reasonable cooked breakfast but those in the shepherds huts were not allowed inside for breakfast.

Hi John, I’d think we’d be upset if we had ordered either a cooked or continental breakfast and only received a porridge & cereal one but the fact is your wife Samantha booked your accommodation in one of the En-suite shepherds huts knowing that it was an ‘early start’ self serve breakfast. This was explained to Samantha when she phoned desperately trying to find accommodation so that you could stay in the same place as some friends doing the Coast to Coast walk, so you could join them for a few days on the walk. We changed our occupancy levels to accommodate you both. We are always concerned when expectations aren’t met and so checked our web description which reads as follows:- “For the En-suite Shepherds Huts we supply a lighter cereal/porridge breakfast for guests to make and eat in the hut. This is advantageous to those walkers who wish to start off really early in the morning.” The breakfast items chosen were done so in consultation with long distance walkers who prefer to get started at the crack of dawn.
It’s a shame to see our first 1 star review in nine years when we provided exactly what you purchased and more! I now fully understand ‘Creamgate’.

Lovely stuff

Stayed for one night during C2C walk. Very friendly and homely vibes, Honesty Bar and a really nice breakfast. Location couldn't be better . Would defo return, with a hope of seeing a red squirrel next time

Nice - but a bit disappointing

This is a friendly B&B right on the coast to coast path.
There is a nice common area with an honesty bar. There are also some good supplies available for walkers.
The room was very small for a double and relatively expensive. The room was cold when we arrived and the heating seemed to go off early. The towel rail was also off.
The room did come with a bath, but the shower was hand held and awkward.
