Disappointed

This is my 4th visit but leaving a bit disappointed. The hotel is very jaded but my room this time was really poor - faded worn carpets, shabby furniture, curtains tattered and hard to close. No rolls at breakfast this morning at 7.30am. This hotel is in a great position with great staff but......

A West Highland Hotel badly in need of a total refurbishment - very tired

Booked this hotel for a solo four day break . The hotel is badly in need of a total refurbishment . The communal areas are very tired , worn carpets , torn wallpaper , chipped paintwork. My room was ok , clean and the bathroom had been upgraded at some point . Only one bedside lamp in a double room. The view from my window to the back of the hotel was not good , rotten windows , drainpipes and gutters rusty, leaking with weeds everywhere. Breakfast was barely eatable , the food in the hotplates was luke warm and not very palatable . The main dining room equally shoddy and run down. The bar was a depressing place , a relic of the 1980s with a stale smell
I would avoid this place at all costs . The only good thing I can say is the staff were all very friendly and were trying hard to please.

Our room was clean & comfortable, the location was central, and most staff were welcoming, pleasant & helpful. However, the communal areas looked tired and needed redecoration.
The hotel advertises itself as dog friendly, & on check, in we were told our dog could join us for breakfast in a separate room, as dogs are not allowed in the buffet restaurant.
On the 1st morning, staff initially tried to seat us in a room being used to store maintenance equipment & paint, chairs stacked on tables, It was not set up for breakfast. After we objected, we were moved to a properly prepared room, together with other guests with dogs.
The next morning, the same situation occurred. When we explained that we had been moved to the prepared room the previous day, the same staff member became more aggressive, said this was not allowed and threatened to call the police. This was intimidating & completely unnecessary.
We chose not to have breakfast & checked out. Reporting the incident to the hotel manager who apologised for the staff member’s behaviour & refunded the second day’s breakfast charge, which we appreciated.
If travelling with a dog, clarify the hotel’s policy before booking. The issue was not the restriction on dogs in the main restaurant, but the inconsistent information, unsuitable breakfast room and aggressive treatment. The manager’s apology suggests that clearer procedures & better staff training are needed. It’s a shame as it soured what was an otherwise pleasant stay.

i booked on the same day and everything went alright! the room was nice for only a one person, and the bathroom was even nicer. the only thing is that it you could smell it was closed for a while - not a bad smell at all, though noticeable in the first moments when you entered the room
