Great experience

What a brilliant place to stay!
We cannot fault the accommodation, facilities, or the reception staff. But the absolute bonus was having the castle grounds to ourselves after it closed to the public. It was an amazing experience.

Clean room with very good communal facilities. Having access to the grounds during our stay was excellent. Lovely breakfast from the Stables cafe. We will definitely return.

Wonderful, dog-friendly stay at Muncaster Castle—history, walks, warm hospitality, and so much to enjoy.

We had a truly wonderful few days away staying at Muncaster Castle. The location is absolutely perfect for exploring the surrounding area, with breathtaking scenery in every direction. The rhododendrons were especially beautiful during our visit and made the grounds even more magical.
It was also an excellent base for walking, with Scafell Pike only a short drive away, making it ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy the stunning Lake District landscape. It’s also a fantastic location for dogs, with so many wonderful walks right on the doorstep. Our dogs, Topsy and Turvey, absolutely loved every minute of their adventures exploring the grounds and surrounding area.
What really made our stay special was how well looked after we were from start to finish. The hospitality was faultless, and nothing was too much trouble. A special mention must go to the Pennington family and Hannah, who were absolutely wonderful and helped make our stay even more enjoyable.
Exploring the castle itself was an unforgettable experience — it is full of fascinating history, and visiting the famous ghost bedrooms added an extra touch of excitement and charm.
What makes Muncaster even more special is that it has so much more to offer than just a day trip or overnight stay. From themed weekends and special evening events to being a wonderful venue for weddings, there is always something happening. It was also lovely to see the Saturday park runs, which add yet another fantastic community feel to this amazing place.
Overall, it was an exceptional stay that combined history, beautiful surroundings, outstanding hospitality, and wonderful dog-friendly walks. We thoroughly recommend staying at Muncaster Castle and would love to return.

We had the luck of staying during the week of Halloween. the room was spacious and comfortable. There was a wonderful Halloween event happening and we especially enjoyed the owl show.

Robbed!!!!!

Make sure you read the small print when booking. I booked a weekend in September when BMF usually hold a motorcycle rally. It was announced that it wasnt taking place this year so I called and cancelled my booking (over £300) and was told 'if I was eligible' for a refund I'd get in 14 days. I waited - no refund! Asked again and was told my booking was non refundable so I asked if we could just come and stay then and they told me no they'd rebooked the room already.
Always read the terms so robbing bar stewards can't rip you off!!!!!
