Attractive hostel in the middle of a quiet town.

The hostel was surprisingly pleasant and the beds were among the best we have slept in. Location could not be better, in the middle of a quiet town with a bus stop just across the street. The common room (the library, which once was used for playing pool) is a very attractive room full of books and boardgames. The kitchen is spacious and inviting. There is little luxury, and the house is old and full of history, but for the price, very good value.

No private bathroom

It is important to note that it has a hostel.
The room does not have a bathroom or private toilet. They're upstairs. The sharing depends on the other roommates.
The room is comfortable and the windows overlook the sea.
Nothing wrong with cleanliness, except when you go to the bathroom after someone has brushed their teeth and put them everywhere.
The situation is perfect for Anstruther.

Most beautiful hostel

Super family room, spacious and stylish, with wooden floor and beautiful sea views. Everything sparkling clean, with private bath/shower right next door on the corridor. Also the common areas are great, top kitchen and a cozy shared library living room with instruments, books, games etc.
The location is great, right on the picturesque harbour, right in the center, facing-a-vis the bus stop.
Just a few steps away, there are two great fish & chip shops that compete ((we found the Wee Chippy better than the famous Arnstruther Fish Bar, which is also worth a visit).
All in all, the most beautiful room we had on our trip - and at an absolutely fantastic price. We would have stayed another night immediately if it had not been fully booked. So make a reservation in time!

a delightful find in Anstruther

My first time staying at the Murray Library Hostel, or any hostel really. Was a little apprehensive especially as travelling alone. I needn't have worried, The Murray Library Hostel was a pleasing new experience. Welcomed by Darius the manager, who as I was early for my booking in time , advised me to leave my case secure in his office and go to explore Anstruther unhindered. My delightful room was overlooking the beach and harbour with stunning views of the Forth . The library is a stunning building with lots of history attached. There is a communal lounge complete with a piano and plenty of seating. The kitchen is spotless and has everything you could need to cook an evening meal should you want to. Although there are plenty of places to eat if cooking is not for you . All in all I had a very pleasant 2 night stay in March 2024, and have made a further longer booking for August . Just outside the main door you will find bus stances to travel to St. Andrews or any of the little fishing villages, The manager Darius was very helpful.

The best hostels

The value for money is extraordinary. This building is full of character, clean and the room is spacious and tasteful decor. Comfortable bed, showers with good pressure, equipped and pleasant kitchen. Welcoming host. In short, great and super well located.
