Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and a lovely surprise.

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The communication between the hotel and myself was really good. They offered extras we could have in our room to make it feel extra special and a complimentary Bentley tour of Cambridge if we wished. Upon arriving at the hotel, it was easy to check in and discovered in our room that they had left us wine and chocolates complementary of the hotel which was a lovely surprise. We had an evening meal booked in the hotel restaurant, Tiago looked after us very well whilst we were in the restaurant and in the morning at breakfast. Even though we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant in the evening, the waiting staff could have been a bit more efficient and it felt as though they sometimes weren’t sure on what they were doing. The hotel and our room were very clean and well presented, both my husband and I agreed if we visited Cambridge in the future, we would stay at the Gonville Hotel again. We had a lovely stay and Cambridge is beautiful.

I last stayed in the Gonville 5 years ago, and I felt its standards had slipped since it became part of Radisson. Whilst the room was fine, we could not get lunch on the Saturday (being sent by staff to different restaurants that were not open). We did have a bath but the large bottles of shampoo etc had been fixed exactly where you put your head in the bath, so it was not comfortable. The chairs at breakfast were worn and frayed, and whilst busy, breakfast was chaos, with queues of people waiting for the buffet breakfast to be restocked. It’s a great shame as I remember the customer experience was important to the Gonville, but I think it’s just not as important or the same now.

A wonderful Cambridge experience

Wonderful experience at the beautiful and sophisticated Goneville Hotel. We chose this location based on reviews, proximity to the Cambridge city center and easy coach access and it was a wonderful choice. Colleges and key areas of interest are all very accessible, as are many fantastic restaurants and cafes. The hotel is elegant and serene with a welcoming and friendly staff and we would welcome the chance to visit again. While time did not permit for us, take advantage of the complimentary Bentley tour around the city.

A special place to stay

Our second visit to this lovely hotel. It has an excellent breakfast, comfortable rooms and a wonderful staff. A special mention for Mike who gave us a great tour in their vintage Bentley.

Was a little surprised to be charged for tap water in the bar, as well as a service charge. We were also nearly charged for some room service items that we had not ordered. Once advised, they did cancel, though left to feel that we were being dishonest. Did say on checking in that we would prefer to pay as we go for additions.
Stayed at the hotel with family. They were provided with a welcome pack of goodies. We were not. Seemed a little inconsistent when we had both booked superior rooms. They also had a bath and shower and we had a walk in shower. Only difference being, who we had booked through? Negative niggles aside, this is a beautiful, clean hotel, great sized rooms, with helpful staff and an enjoyable breakfast.
