Appalling hotel and service

This hotel was unwelcoming and unlike unmanned receptions in other hotels, the check in process was cumbersome which was frustrating after a long journey. The facilities were of poor standard, the TV did not work and the shower was shoddy. The walls were thin; you could hear the person next door snoring so a restful night's sleep was not possible. This double room reassembled a corridor; so narrow that there was hardly any walking space on either side of the bed with only enough space for one bedside cabinet. In addition, I was left trapped in the bathroom when the handle fell off on the other side when I pulled the door to close it. I eventually managed to re engage the handle to the central handle bar and push it open at which point the handle fell off completely on the other side. On inspection, the handle had been glued on with what looked like woodwork glue instead of proper screws biting into the woodwork. (see photos ) which poses a health and safety risk as in the event of an emergency or fire, this would cause a delay in evacuation. I left the hotel a day early, tired and unrested. A refund was agreed however I did not receive the credit on my card. Hotels.com later advised me later the owner was now refusing it. I contacted Expedia and shared my experience supplying the required evidence through the text messages with the agreed refund. They upheld my complaint, apologised and honoured the refund. I would not recommend this hotel even for something as basic as a good night's sleep. The customer service was the worst experience of any hotels I have stayed at. I would also look at booking hotels directly with an establishment and perhaps cutting out middle men because when it came to it, Hotels.com supported the hotel and did not care about the customer and only persistence and escalating it to Expedia did I get anywhere.

Disappointing

Positive: clean bedding and reasonable room, however this place is just a cash cow. Bathroom stank (stale water with sewage smell - thankfully the latter disappeared after opening windows). Fair sleep - it was quiet - but mattress was super firm and the sheets smelt very strongly of laundry products, so not very sleep inducive. Found out the next morning after a few attempts to contact the owner that breakfast was, in fact, at the local pub 5 minutes away. Usual cooked fried food only which I just couldn’t face. Avoid

The hotel was very nice and clean. The check in was independent and the simple (using a door code).

This is a very basic place. It relatively clean and it’s functional.
It worked for our location and was cheap
