3 Hotel but 5 Staff
Stayed here for a night on our way up to Durness & on the way back home. The hotel was nice & clean, food was good but it was the staff who made it for us!! Everyone were so friendly from the barstaff who were rushed off their feet to the restaraunt staff, receptionists & everyone involved in serving breakfast!! Would absolutely recommend a stay!!

Disappointing with no Scottish soul
This restaurant has had its soul removed! We’ve been here every year for over twenty years during our annual Aviemore holiday, for our favourite meal of our holiday and the change this year was horrendous. The hotel has obviously changed hands. All the usual staff have disappeared. The menu has been destroyed and even the traditional placemats have disappeared. For those who know this hotel/restaurant you will know exactly what I mean. For those who don’t know it, then don’t expect anything ‘Scottish’ as part of your experience. It was so disappearing and ridiculously overpriced for what we got. Sorry but what a disappointment!!

Boycotting
As regular visitors to Aviemore with family and friends we have been patrons of The Cairngorm Hotel and always ate in their restaurant several times during our stay. In May 2026 while in the area we were delighted to learn that under new management we could now make a reservation for the restaurant as previously it has always been on a first come basis. However, on telephoning the hotel we were in fact connected to a call centre to make the booking. On arrival at the hotel at the alloted time we found out that a mistake had been made in our booking time We then learned that our telephone booking had been made via a person in a call centre in "South Africa". The matter was resolved and we enjoyed our meal, though noted the reduced menu and increased prices. Fast forward 4 weeks and imagine our surprise when we received a parking fine of £100 for having parked at the Cairngorm Hotel while having our meal. I immediately telephoned the Cairngorm Hotel, only to find myself speaking yet again to someone in South Africa. I was told that I could not be put through to the hotel and if my call was related to a parking fine I had to deal direct with the parking company. I voiced my annoyance at not being able to speak to a member of staff and was told that my message would be passed to the duty manager who would contact me. I am still waiting for this to happen. I thereafter followed the instructions on the parking fine notice and completed the necessary paperwork to appeal the fine and sent this off with a copy of my receipt for the meal purchased in May. At the same time I sent an email to the Cairngorm Hotel along with a copy of the receipt pointing out that the parking restrictions were obviously a recent change and that at no time did any member of staff in the hotel make me aware of the changes and there were no warning notices at the point of checking into the restaurant. This email has been ignored. I have now had a letter from the parking company informing me that their fine was issued legally and that my appeal is not being upheld. They have however reduced the fine from £100 to £20 and given me 15 days to pay this. Again the Cairngorm have ignored another email sent to them regarding this. As a result of this I will not be giving any more business to the Cairngorm Hotel. It is not the fact that parking charges have been introduced, it is the way the new management have chosen to deal with this. Having read recent reviews I hope they realise how much business they have lost/are losing from regular customers and how they have destroyed what the previous owners had achieved over the years.

New management not for the better
Very disappointed to see th decline of the cairngorm hotel being going there for more than twenty years years and disappointing to say the least in the changes brought in by the new owners.
Staff still polite and friendly but not the same welcoming smiles.
Also be warned about parking charges if you fail to register with number plate with reception.
£100 fine landed on us despite being disabled driver with badge displayed.
Contacted hotel with proof of payment for the meal we had on our visit and asked to speak to manager was told he would call us

It is also card only now for payment
Turkish restaurant across the road and will be our go to restaurant in future

Chain takeover decline
We have visited this establishment for approximately 25 years when we visit Aviemore. We have so many happy memories here. Wonderful meals, happy family memories and just good craic with the locals.
Today we stopped in for lunch and were extremely disappointed with the menu and the price hike of the menu
We sensed immediately that something had changed since our last visit.
A familiar face served us with the usual friendly, efficient service but that is where the familiarity stopped. Such a shame as The Cairngorm was a fantastic place to visit.
Not any more since the chain takeover.
