Hotel manager with poor manner, rude and not sincere. Other than that, great location and the room was ok for 2-star.
The only worse thing was the "manager", who was very rude and unprofessional.
At the time of booking, I did book a "Queen Room". However, when I did check in, the receptionist told me that I got an upgrade to one of the best rooms, which was more like a suite or studio. The room is vast and spacious. But, one would notice that it is more suitable for elderly disabled people. I wanted to shower, so I went to the bathroom and discovered that the water pressure was very low and, most importantly, "the faucet was broken and kept falling out every time I tried to put it back". In the end, I told the receptionist that I needed to change the room to at least the one I had booked. I was informed that the hotel was fully booked, which was why I got offered that "Queen room with disability access". They didn't have the room that I booked, to begin with. As stated in the booking, I told them I wanted the room I had already paid for.
However, after a while, the receptionist told me a standard room was available. If I prefer, but it's cheaper than my booking. Accordingly, I informed the agent's website and customer care of what was happening. So that they know what I was going through.
Anyway, Rose (the receptionist) was very friendly and thoughtful. Since it was not the room I paid for, she said she talked to the manager, but they would not give me back the price difference for some reason. However, on her part, if I need anything, just let them know. They can offer me coffee or something at the restaurant.
The booking agent contacted me again. So I told them the situation. The customer was so good to me. They apologised for what happened, and they refunded me the price differences since the room the hotel provided me was cheaper than the one I booked via the website. I was so grateful, and I made no fuss or anything at all after that.
Everything went smoothly. All the staffs at Al Khariss were kind and friendly. Until the check-out time. The manager (Arab/Middle Eastern) was there, and he was angry.
(1) First, he was mad at me for complaining about the booking to the agent's customer care. He was so angry about why I had to inform them and blamed me that everything was my fault, not the hotel's.
(2) Second, he accused me that I was the one who booked that disability access room, which I did not. He blamed me that it was my fault for booking the room and did not know that the water pressure was supposed to be low that way for disabled people (well, I got that but not about the broken faucet that fell off, right? I mean what if a disabled person had to deal with that?). Anyway, he insisted on blaming me and kept shouting at me until I showed him the evidence of my room type at the time of booking. So he was suddenly quiet, especially when I showed him the photos of the faucet in the shower.
(3) Lastly, I did not understand all the people at Khariss hotel who were trying to ensure customer satisfaction. Why on earth does he have to ruin everything? If he does not care about himself, at least he should concern about the hotel's reputation since he was a manager.
I was so disappointed with his manner and could not believe that the manager could be this untrained. He should be the one who knows well about hospitality. He raised his voice, and with the way he talked to me, I couldn't help but feel that he looked down at me. At some point in that conversation, I felt discriminated like I was his servant or something. Perhaps, it was because I am an Asian and not a white-collar look-a-like or something. That's why he treated me like that, but for example, if he did not want me to complain to the service agent or customer care, he should have reached out and offered me a suitable solution. It was Rose and other people trying to provide me with a good memory possible during my stay. (He was a manager, for Gosh's sake).
Anyway, besides the rude manager, everything else was good. Plus, the hotel's location is perfect inside Souq Waqif.
