A surprisingly good hotel and restaurant

For a 3* hotel, this is surprisingly good. We booked this for a 3-night stay whilst visiting the Bieszczady Mountains region of Poland. There was not a big choice of hotels in the area, so when we booked Hotel Szelców, we were not really expecting a lot. We were pleasantly surprised.
The hotel was very easy to find just outside the town centre of Lesko on the main (84) road. It has sufficient private on-site parking (at the front and at the back) which is free of charge and it also has a large restaurant (with an outside terrace) that is also open to non-residents.
Despite this being an older hotel, it is extremely clean and tidy throughout. The rooms, bathrooms, hallways, restaurant and reception areas were spotlessly clean. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating.
As there are not many other restaurants around the Lesko area, we decided to eat dinner in the hotel each evening and were again surprised just how nice the food was. It was presented very nicely and tasted delicious and the prices were also very cheap.
Breakfast was also served in the main restaurant each morning, but unfortunately this was a relatively simple help-yourself buffet style with not a lot of choice.
In general, this is a good place to stay if you are passing through the area and for a 3* hotel, you won’t find a better (or cleaner) one around.

They need to improve some things

Stayed 3 nights. As we did not observe on the net they don't have an elevator so we had to climb 2 floors with our luggage, Upon arrival as there was a wedding it was only possible to use the restaurant at 2300 not practical and they should have informed us this data in advance. Next day while returning from breakfast we found the housekeeping stuff cleaning our room. What's the rush? On the other hand they gave us a good laundry service. In order to go on next step they should improve service criterion.

Great place for English speaking guests

Having spent over 25+ nights in this hotel over the past few years, I always enjoy staying at the Szelców Hotel while in Lesko. My visits are usually 10 days or more in length and the staff always advises me of wedding functions over the weekends. My room of choice is Room 2, which is directly over the banquet area; I can put up with the noise (usually Friday or Saturday nights only) for a few hours, opting for the views during the day time from the numerous windows. One window faces the side of the building overlooking Lesko allowing a view of the church tower and town in the distance over the trees. The other window overlooks a small portion of the hotel parking area in the back giving you a nice view of the forest and hills. Great thing about these windows is they open two ways to vent the air, love sleeping with the windows open. I have also stayed in room 11, which is much larger, a room on the opposite side, but I prefer room 2. I understand in the near future a larger banquet center will be added to the opposite end of the building away from the guest rooms. There are other hotels and accommodations to choose while in Lesko, depending on your needs, by far this hotel is superior to any other at this time in Lesko. Trust me a few years back I took my wife to the more historic hotel near the city center in Lesko, after the first night we had to check-out. We switched to Szelców and since then I have only stayed here. The guest service, housekeeping, and dining room staff at Szelców are ALWAYS very pleasant and professional. For Americans or visitors from Great Britain the hotel employs numerous members of the staff who speak English, while other employees speak enough to understand you. If all else fails you can read the menu in the restaurant they offer in English and Polish. The guest rooms are very clean; Szelców offers larger towels, which are softer, bigger, and white in color. Believe me I experienced towels at the historic hotel in Lesko and other places in Poland that have bath towels the size of hand towels and are very rough and gray in color. The breakfast with the room offers a different selection of salads, cheeses, and cold cuts, fresh bakery items, tea, coffee, and juice, but I like the choice of having a different style egg if you choose which a good thing especially if you stay numerous nights in a row. My favorite dinner item is a regional dish on their menu “Placki ziemniaczane po Bieszczadzku”, it is a potato pancake dinner plate prepared in the Bieszczady Mountain style covered in a goulash type gravy, topped with sour cream. The restaurant also has a coffee/espresso bar along with great selection of sodas, bottled waters, liquors and beers. It is clear the owner, management, and employees take pride in the operation and the grounds with the landscaped bushes and flowers. A daily visit by the resident alpaca that walks the grounds freely is an added amenity.

Lacking in atmosphere, and a bit dull

We had a suite which offered plenty of space and it was obvious that it was decorated with care. Although the colours chosen where not exactly my cup of tea: beige and brown, so a bit depressed by it. The hotel is located next to the main road to Sanok, but the traffic was not bad during the night. Mosquito nets on the windows a very good touch as you need the windows open when it is warm outside and as there is a small lake not far away, I am really happy that we didn't have to chose between the mosquitos or the fresh air. Tea and coffee making facilities in a lounge along the corridor. Otherwise no lift, so quite a few stairs to climb. Breakfast buffet was good, no fresh fruit, and if you do not fancy the instant coffee, just ask for coffee and you get a decent cup of coffee freshly made. Staff helpful and nice.

Very good, but read this fully.

We stayed here for a wedding last weekend, we have travelled a fair few places and after my last visit to this area. We were pleasantly surprised. It was great, check was fairly easy and the room was fine, We had room 11, which is a suite which had a comfortable lounge and bedroom, with a small but very decent en-suite. The food and drink served throughout our stay was very good, particularly the wedding food if anyone is looking for this place as a venue. I will add this is very much a place for weddings or parties, they actually had two weddings on at the same time when we was there and the service from all staff throughout the two day event we attended were excellent. I will add, as previously posted, it is very load throughout the night when events are on, but no problem if you are attending. The hotel itself has a somewhat strange layout with an event room on the 1st floor (which we were in), a restaurant on the ground floor which turns into an event area when needed and the guest rooms are on the 2nd floor. This is not somewhere you would want to spend a long time at, as there is not much to do in the hotel or the area in general. A very nice coffee and cake place next door, a super market and garage across the road are about it within walking distance. Anyone staying more than a couple of days may want to consider a car as local towns Lesko and Sanok have a few bars and restaurants, In short this is a great place to go for a party or wedding, or if you were travelling through. Those considering a stay here should bare in mind its not a large luxury resort or a town like 4 star hotel. Its a little more basic, but its clean and tidy, with good food, drink and staff, who make you feel welcome and are helpful and efficient In particular the receptionist at the front desk (a young dark haired lady) who spoke near perfect English and was very helpful giving directions, getting taxis and answering all the silly questions us tourist come up with. This is not an expensive place to stay either, it represents good value for what you get in comparison to many i have stayed in throughout the world.
