Very nice for a budget
The shared bathroom and shower are very clean, in our room we also had a sink and mirror which was nice as you didn’t have to use the shared bathroom as much. The rooms are small but clean, beds are a little uncomfortable but again it’s a budget hotel so you get what you pay for here and it’s definitely worth a stay.
Staff are also very friendly, and the free breakfast in the morning is very nice.

Very simple hotel
Our room felt very simple but still fresh.
Sounds from outside were clearly heard despite closed windows.
Very steep stairs up to the room.
No toilet or shower in the room.
It was outside, it worked well.
It said in the description that there would be a refrigerator in the room, but there wasn't.
The breakfast was very simple. There were neither vegetables nor fruits.

Acceptable budget hotel with a current member of staff problem
We knew no air con booking in advance but chanced it and we regretted.
The night caretaker wasn't helpful.
We asked to swap TV channels in the bar to the world cup Scotland game but he wouldn't, no-one else in!
I also asked that the bar air con be put back on like it is normally and his response was no, it makes his friend ill. !!
Was his friend a paying guest?

Avoid, Even for the Price
Check-in takes place in the bar area, which unfortunately smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The staff were not particularly attentive, and we were left to carry two large suitcases up the steep Dutch stairs ourselves. While the hotel cannot do much about the narrow, traditional staircase, it is definitely something to be aware of if you are travelling with heavy luggage.
When we entered our room, I was genuinely shocked. We stayed in a top-floor room, which fortunately meant we avoided most of the street noise and managed to get a decent night's sleep despite the single-glazed windows. The room itself, however, was extremely disappointing. It was dirty, dusty, covered in cobwebs, and looked very dated. The floorboards were noticeably uneven, paint was peeling off the walls and the small television was barely worth using.
The room was at least warm, which was appreciated as we visited in December. Unfortunately, the windows were filthy and stained yellow, and the bedding did not appear particularly clean either. There was also no private bathroom, meaning we had to use a shared facility down the hallway. We were lucky that few other guests seemed to be using it during our stay, but it was still inconvenient. I dread to think what the cleanliness would have been like had it been used by multiple guests throughout the day.
While some aspects of the hotel are unavoidable due to the age and structure of the building, such as the steep stairs and sloping floors, many of the issues could easily be improved. New carpets, cleaner and more modern bedding, replacement windows, a thorough cleaning regime, and updated televisions would make a significant difference.
Breakfast was included in our room rate, but the smell from the bar area was so unpleasant that we could not bring ourselves to try it. Given the overall standard of the hotel, I was not particularly eager to see what breakfast would be like.
Overall, while the location and price may initially seem attractive, the poor cleanliness, lack of basic comforts, and general condition of the property mean I would not recommend staying here.
