Room with a view
We are avid and experienced travelers who don’t need fancy amenities. This room had an amazing view of the water and nearby islands. Hotel staff were attentive and responsive. Located in the heart of downtown Bocas del Toro where all the action is and yet our room was quiet. Equipped with a soaker tub (coming from Costa Rica where tubs are nonexistent, this was a bonus)! Highly recommend.

Deceiving

This hotel is no longer in operation. There is new management operating this hotel under the name Casa Corazón. Please keep in mind. Trip Advisor should offer authentic information to their customers and remove it from their listings like Limbo Hotel. Thank you

Good location, bad service
We stayed 3 nights and encountered a number of problems that were never really resolved: the toilet was not flushing; you cant use the power plugs unless for one in the bathroom due to the wooden material covering the plugs, it is impossible to charge a phone, laptop or camera there. They were cutting the water supply multiples times a day.
Positive things, the room had an ocean view that was pretty nice. The location is convenient

Good hotel let down by staff
We stayed 4 nights here. The location is excellent with just a short walk to a variety of restaurants and shops. The room was clean and comfortable with a private veranda that overlooked the street. It was enjoyable watching some of the local characters going by while enjoying a drink on our veranda.
Unfortunately the hotel was let down by the staff.
I fully understand that at times things can go wrong with plumbing etc in hotels but would expect staff to do all they can to reduce any inconvenience. When we awoke one morning to water leaking through the light fitting in the bathroom from an overflowing toilet in the above room, I went looking for a staff member, who happened to be on the way up the stairs to investigate. The flow of water was stopped but when I went to reception to request someone clean up the bathroom floor the person was very put out by my request and ended up coming up later with 3 towels which he spread over the floor and advised someone would be up later in the day to clean up.
We had booked accommodation, including breakfast each day, and when we checked in and asked about breakfast receptionist was unsure but would find out and asked us to come back later. When we came back another person was on duty and did not know but said the person on duty in the morning would know and to check then. The next morning the person on duty was very short with us and said breakfast would be served in the downstairs restaurant at 8am. We came back at 8am to find the restaurant still closed and no one in sight, the duty person said they must be running late and just be patient. When no one had appeared in the restaurant by 8:30 I gave up expecting any help from staff and ended up finding a nearby cafe and buying breakfast as we had a tour booked for 9am.
Later there was a 4th person on reception who at first advised breakfast was not included in our booking, I insisted she find the voucher we provided at check in, after shuffling papers around she found it, admitted that breakfast was included in our booking and proceeded to give us vouchers for a restaurant a few doors down where breakfast was provided, it was not in this hotel.
Would I go back to Isla Colon, absolutely, would I stay at El Limbo, definitely not.

Great ocean view, nice atmosphere, flavorless crepes and friendly service.
Their restaurant is located at the back of the El Limbo Hotel right on the water in downtown Bocas Town. The view is fantastic and it has a nice bohemian laid-back style. However, their new crepe menu is a real disappointment. My Hawaiian crepe was toasted crispy brown and held a single slice of "straight out of the plastic package" processed ham, some melted white processed cheese (no description) and a few pineapple chunks straight out of a can (on an island abundant with real pineapples), all for about $7, delivering no real flavor. We had eaten there before and had enjoyed their breakfasts, so this was a real disappointment. Their staff is friendly and tried to help by offering some house spices. We ate because we were hungry. Next time we will try the basic breakfast again.
