Comfort and care Gaurennteed

I have stayed at Paulas many times over the years. For a short stay of a couple of weeks it has everything you need. Spacious bedrooms, clean bedding and en-suite toilet and shower. There is good internet, cooked breakfast and a well stocked fridge. They have a generator for when the power is down and an excellent laundry service. The best thing about this place is the staff, they are friendly attentive and will go out of thier way to get you what you need

Avoid , please do yourself a favour and avoid this place

I don't know where to start lol The first night I was there I got mysterious phonecalls from a strange woman saying she "wants my friendship" but she wouldn't tell me her name, after he 3rd freaky call I just turned my phone off. The next day a housekeeper who I had never spoken to before told me it was her and she took my number from the guestbook.
The second morning they knocked on my door 6 times in 1 despite the fact I told them 6 times I was trying to sleep , eventually I got up and got angry. (That actually happened on 2 mornings).
They have a fridge but it's off more than its on, they unplug for hours every afternoon to iron sheets despite the fact there's many other sockets. I could honestly write a book about all the bizarre things in that guesthouse. They don't understand how to calculate nights , for example I paid up front for 7 nights which means I'm paid up until the 8th morning .... That doesn't compute with any of the staff. They have water for guests at 2k a bottle. I settled my water bill on Dec 31st .... I was leaving on the 3rd, I thought I drank between 3-5 waters on the 1st and 2nd .... The director demanded I pay for 15 lol I also had to pay for 2 nights because they don't know how to calculate nights.

You get what you pay for with this place!

I do not recommend this place at all! Shower heads dont work, cold showers, TV didnt work, no Wifi, toaster was broken so I am not even sure why they had it out. The owner showed up and spoke rudely to her staff. She also conducted her business at the table for guests, Made it hard for all of us to fit at the table for breakfast and have a conversation while she had her paperwork, computer and business associates all there. Sorry but we were paying customers, i would think she would have had better manners - by the way, she had an office she could have used. She also used the veranda all day also having no regards for her paying guests. Very rude!
The girls that work there were the only good thing about this place. They were very good at what they do and felt very bad for them on how the owner spoke down to them and treated them poorly.
Next time I will pay a little more and stay somewhere else!

Yup - it's a surprise treasure for $20 a night

Well located, clean, hot water, decent shower, queen-sized bed (some thought the mattress was too hard, but not me), decent wifi, good breakfast, lovely staff -- what more do you need?
I was reluctant at the low price of $20 (actually UGX 75,000 for a room that sleeps one and UGX 85,000 for a room that sleeps two), but the reviews were so good, we took the risk, and were not disappointed.
No air conditioning, but the room is small, so the fan was really enough.
Highly recommended for the budget conscious and even creature-comfort seekers, like me.

A Real Gem

Paula Guesthouse is conveniently located near many of Gulu's hotspots: Smiling Panda, Elefante Restaurant, Acholi Inn, etc. Not only are rooms spacious and clean, but showers provide steady streams of hot water. The staff are welcoming and extremely helpful, especially when it comes to navigating town, arranging transport, and planning trips to places nearby. The cherry on top is the cake is the complimentary breakfast -- don't miss out on the homemade rolexes! I highly recommend Paula Guesthouse to anyone in need of a peaceful home base in Gulu.
