BEST THAMEL HOTEL

Hotel located Centrally in Thamel.
Along with that they have a very good Restro with fantastic Pizza and Nepali Thali.
Friendly staffs and people taking care of you.
The rooms are reasonably priced and are clean to the core.
You should meet the young and energetic Owner.

A danger to life

The worst hotel I have stayed in since I first came to Nepal 11 years ago. Major safety problems, I received a delivery (albeit late) and upon trying to leave the hotel we found the exit was locked and bolted. This is common in Nepal but there is always someone around to let you out (paticularly when it is advertised as accepting check in until midnight). I shouted, looked in the office, rung reception, went through every floor in the hotel. No answer. If this had been an emergency or fire we would have all been dead. 30 minutes later (12 calls) we finally got through to someone on the end of the line, who said they would try to call the security. Another 15 minutes passed and eventually someone appeared. No apology and no smile. So it took around an hour to get out in total.
On top of this there were the following issues:
Did not know about my booking on arrival, and not a friendly welcome. Hotel is a building site with loud noise all day and dust everywhere. I had to leave early the next morning and requested a packed breakfast but no one except security around at 715am and I didn't see any sign of life again.
