The place to stay in Vilanculos

In Vilanculos you stop to see the Bazaruto Islands, the village is typical Mozambican with colorful stalls and tuk tuks.
The Baobab is a great value for money solution. 12 Cottages - including 9 on the beach - simple but clean and comfortable. Sunrise at 5.30am with the possibility, lying in the hammocks present in each Cottage, to admire the rising sun in the sky, the departing fishermen and the tides that continuously transform the landscape. Rebecca the manager and all the staff are friendly and professional. We were very well recommended!!

Avoid boat tours at Boabab Beach

This review relates to Island Adventure tours, not the hotel to which the tour company is connected.
We took their one day tour to Bazaruto Island and found the experience unsafe and very crowded. There were 17 people (14 passengers and 3 crew) on a 5 metre boat with only 4 safe seats. Some people had to sit on a cooler chest or stand as we bounced on rough seas. The crew tried hard to make us comfortable and prepared a great lunch but there were simply too many people on the boat.
I tried to give feedback and raise concerns with the owner in person but he didn’t respond.
Boabab Tree is a pleasant, well managed accomodation but I’d strongly suggest booking tours elsewhere.

Lovely place on the seafront

Simple but pleasant cottages on the beach front, clean and with all that is needed for a long weekend or week in one of the most spectacular places on the coast of Mozambique. The hammocks on each cabin porch are a plus. Staff is very nice and helpful, and food at the restaurant always good.

Cute village where you can spend a few days relaxing

The village is a dignified place to spend a few days relaxing... those expecting rooms or 5 star services have the wrong place!! The village is situated 10 minutes drive from the airport and 500 meters from the village center, where you can visit the market with a local guy!! Bungalows are spartan some, like my sea front where in the morning you can admire the sunrise!!!
In the restaurant you eat well at decent prices!! All the staff in the village are helpful and very kind!!! I recommend this village to people who know how to adapt and do not have many pretensions, thinking about the fact that we are in Mozambique!!

Shared Facilities Need an Overhaul

Great beachfront location. The town center is only about 15-20 minutes away on foot. The staff sets this place apart, one of the nicest and most helpful group of people i’ve met in my travels. I feel bad for mentioning negatives, but i have to be honest here. The shared facilities in this place are in serious need of repairs. The toilets are often clogged, some showers are broken, shower areas get flooded, water sometimes smell like rust, mosquito nets have huge holes, the shared kitchen gets real dirty…maybe they’re not prioritizing shared spaces for budget travelers idk.
In the dorm room, there’s limited electrical outlets. A power strip would solve this problem. There are no individual lockers in the dorms, but they do offer a secure place to store valuables. The WiFi works great, but it’s only at the restaurant/bar. Speaking of the restaurant, they serve good food and they run a tab. You only have to pay for everything before checking out. They also accept credit cards which was very convenient. I didn’t have to go to the bank to get some cash.
There’s not much choice in Vilanculos for budget travelers. If the current state of disrepair doesn’t bother you, it’s still a pretty good deal considering the price and location.
