Beautiful stay in akumal bay

I stayed here with a friend for a week in mid-April. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and very responsive on the WhatsApp! We also rented life jackets and snorkels here to snorkel at akumal bay and yal-ku lagoon which was great and cheap considering we had them basically two days.
The pool is close by, it’s small and usually has kids there which was a slight bummer because the sargassum was brutal when we were there. Sadly we know there’s not much they can do about this, however some other resorts we saw were trying to clean it up and they didn’t here. We still had a great stay but absolutely something to be mindful of - we had picked this place originally because it was right on beachfront so we could stay there and go in water and we absolutely couldn’t the water was so bad and soooo stinky ha. We instead left everyday to tulum or more northern beaches. Food options are minimal up here but la lunita was great and jungle cafe. Definitely rent a car so you can get groceries or go to other towns!
Condo was nice and clean and great linens and no issues there. AC was very strong and hammocks were cozy. The room had good wifi I was able to work and take video calls from it, Netflix on the TV but we didn’t really use it. Was very quiet only one or two people around us. Grounds were beautiful and lush and free parking outside too.
Warning about the showers - you literally have to run the shower for like 10-15 min before it’s warm. If at night worse, but this is a general thing in Mexico. We had cold showers the first few days because we didn’t know and one night literally had to do it almost 25 min but got there!
They gave us oil and filtered water, coffee maker and filters, pots and pans, cutlery etc. there were some ants in kitchen.
Overall a great stay and a beautiful hotel! Would stay again.

Nice resort

My husband and I stayed for 1wk. The rm we got was not what we thought we booked so we upgraded to the King rm which has a kitchen ( with stove, oven and microwave, full size fridge). King bed, lots of storage room to unpack your bags. Spacious bathroom with jacuzzi. Have to run shower a bit to get hot water but then there is plenty. Beach infront is not wide but lounge chairs and umbrellas available free. Maid service available. Difficult to get into ocean because of rocks so pool shoes needed. During our stay we had many windy days that churned up the ocean causing it to be murky and couldn't snorkel. Cenote further down the beach if you want to pay and snorkel.Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. You can rent golf carts if you want. We had a car rental so did do day trips. Lots of seaweed during our stay. Can get beach towels but do have to give a deposit. Nice resort. Fairly quiet.

The room was clean and had fabulous views through the enormous window in the living room and small balcony in the bedroom. Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach was particularly bad which rendered the beach unusable but there was a great bar called La Buena Vida next door with a pool, good food and reasonably priced beer. Alternatively Akumal beach (with much less seaweed) was a 10 minute walk down the road. I would definitely recommend.

Great, clean unit with a fully equipped kitchen and the AC worked flawlessly. Only issue is the pool is a bit of a walk away at a restaurant a few buildings over. The sargassum situation was much earlier and much worse than usual. There was no way to swim from the hotels beach and they stated they couldn't clear the beach due to it being a turtle nesting area.

Nice hotel, terrible for swimming

We spent two weeks in this attractive accommodation with a beautiful view over Half Moon Bay. The office and cleaning staff were great, and everything was tidy and well maintained (except the free bikes which felt poorly maintained).
A cheerful note from the hotel stated; "Planning to swim? Each unit is ocean-facing and absolutely beachfront! We recommend wearing water shoes as Half Moon Bay has some coral and rocks". In fact this was a HUGE understatement. Swimming off the beach was very challenging. Just beyond the sand the ocean floor was covered with hazardous stones and dead coral. These made reaching deeper water for swimming or snorkelling plain dangerous. Beach shoes provided inadequate protection as the real challenge was maintaining balance while walking over large and scarcely visible stones to reach water deep enough for swimming - next to impossible and I ended up with nasty scrapes from falling. It could have been worse. All this seemed to explain why, in spite of the clean warm sea, hardly anybody chose to enter it.
Note that while the adjacent Akumal Beach has an excellent sandy beach and easy water entry, shade is effectively owned by the private resorts that line the shore. Security guards will kick you out if you move beyond the legal limit for public access to the ocean.
Rather than rent a car, we chose to take taxis between Tulum Airport and the hotel, a good one hour ride. This would typically cost around US$50 in Mexico. One way fares touted at the airport ran up to $150! Googling "taxi in Tulum overcharging" confirmed that bad stuff is happening in the Tulum/Akumal area. Beware! We have travelled a lot throughout Mexico and never encountered this sort of thing.
