Lovely Posada/BnB

This is a lovely Posada/BnB. Our room was small, with one queen sized bed and another in the loft, but we are three adults and were plenty comfortable. It was very sweetly decorated and had access to a lovely, relaxing terrace. In the morning, we had a simple but good homemade breakfast which cost around $250 mxn for three people. The owner doesn’t speak English and I don’t speak Spanish, but we shared our love of houseplants using google translate. All in all a good value and pleasant stay.

Noisy parties and dogs & and lack of sleep

I stayed with a guide in 2 x rooms for 2 nights in Feb 2021. Was a weekend - "Events venue" next door had party all night and accommodation was unbearably noisy. Owner's dog was barking all night outside property - didn't see any cats! The morning we left we realised owner even allowed guests to have their dogs inside the rooms - it seems the "events" property next door is not a occupied house and somehow connected to the business of the Posada although the lady denied having any connection with them - no effort was made by her during the night to try and stop the noise. If you love dogs barking all night, noisy parties till the wee hours next door, busy roads outside then this is the place for you - if you prefer a good night's sleep I'd give it a miss.

Cozy Posada with Homestay-character

Staying at Posada Bugambilas was like staying at your aunties house. You enter through a lovely made garden into the airy house. We stayed in the room at the first floor and enjoyed our breakfast at the huge balcony from where you can see the lake. Josefina, the owner, gives you the feeling of being a friend.for a visit. She is really open and always there to help or answer your questions.
Definitely recommendable!

The lady and the lake

This posada hardly needs a sign outside---the copious flowers give it away! It's a bit of an uphill walk from the town centre and not by the lakeside and perhaps this is why it isn't more popular. Also mosquito repellent is a good idea. However its low price, cleanliness and above all, hospitality more than make up for this.
Breakfast is not included in the price but Chepina will prepare it to order---a different recipe each day. She also knows a lot of local people and can arrange day excursions. In the absence of organised tours in Catemaco, she set me up to visit the Reserva Benito Juarez, an enclave of rain forest with waterfalls, via local transport and a guide.
So, excellent value and a feeling of home in this little-visited corner of Mexico.

More a home than a hotel

Chepina treats you like a long-lost member of the family and works very hard to make you feel at home. She is also a great cook. Although close to downtown Catemaco, it is far enough away to offer peace and quiet at night.
As a veteran of the hype offered via the Internet by most Mexican hostels, I can highly recommend Posada Bugambilias to anyone seeking the comforts of home.
During the rainy season the beds tend to be empty so Chepina will exert extra effort to accommodate you since your visit will help sustain the posada until the tourist season.
