A beautiful oasis in the medina with the loveliest hosts

A special place in the medina, a little oasis which the owners Yasmine and Alex make feel like a home from home. As soon as we booked we had a note from Yasmine welcoming us and seeing how she could help our trip and it was great to get a transfer to the Riad as it would have been tricky to find on our own. She also recommended a guide to the medina for an afternoon - while we usually like to wander on our own we were really glad we took Yasmine’s advice as the medina in Fes is like a labyrinth and we would never have seen all we did without Youssef’s excellent help. Yasmine’s thoughtfulness is wonderful - we decided on lunch near the Blue Gate and when she realised this she messaged to see if better for Youssef to meet us there rather than us going back to the Riad to meet him - it’s just an example of the thoughtful personal touch that she brought to our stay.
The Riad shows the love and care Yasmine and Alex have poured into restoring and furnishing it - with antiques and quirky finds creating lots of spaces to sit and relax from the shady courtyard to different seating spaces around the Riad. We had the Diamond suite which was spacious and beautiful with a large bathroom and sitting area.
The whole team go out of their way to make your stay special - so thanks to Mohammed, Said and Douaa as well.
I hope that we will be lucky enough to make our way back to Riad Le Califfe one day!

A Peaceful and Unforgettable Stay in Fes

Our stay at Riad Le Calife in Fes was truly incredible and easily one of the best hotel/accommodation experiences we’ve ever had. The riad is absolutely stunning. The pictures do not do it justice at all. Every detail of the decor and design of the place and the rooms were beautiful and thoughtfully done, making the entire place feel so special.
The riad was incredibly peaceful. From the moment we arrived, we felt calm, relaxed, and completely taken care of. After the busy energy of the medina, coming back to the riad felt like such a serene escape. The place and the rooms were incredibly clean. The location was also very convenient since it was so close to Rcif Square. The rooftop was another highlight with the most amazing panoramic view over Fes.
Yasmine and Alex are genuinely amazing hosts. They were so accommodating and helpful throughout our stay, assisting us with reservations, recommendations, drivers, and anything else we needed. The staff were also exceptional. Mohammed was incredibly kind, attentive, and always checking in to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He truly made us feel at home with how caring and thoughtful he was throughout our stay. Sayed was also so welcoming, helpful, and attentive, always ready to assist us with anything and making sure we were well taken care of.
The breakfast every morning was delicious, and the restaurant area itself was gorgeous. Everything felt elegant, warm, and thoughtfully prepared.
We absolutely loved our experience here and would recommend Riad Le Calife to anyone visiting Fes.

An Elegant Riad With Exceptional Service and Panaramic Views of the Fez Medina

We stayed at this Riad for five nights. It was fantastic. The proprietors, Yasmine and Alex, provide an exceptional level of service. “This is your home. Do as you like”, Alex said. We did!
The property is oppoulently decorated with antiques and curiosities, arranged elegantly throughout. From the main welcoming office, to the courtyard, the inside downstairs parlor living room, to the bar, all are exquisitely decorated in rich fabrics and filled with unique items to explore.
We stayed in the “Rubis” suite, the second largest available, as the largest was already booked. That said, the Rubis was very large, with king size bed, and a sitting area including two large plush red satin chairs, a coffee table and foot stools. The bathroom had double sinks, a shower, and a large tub, which I indulged in each night.
The ceilings are quite high, at least 24 feet, providing a sense of tremendous space and comfort. The entrance to the suite are wooden double doors. The floor is all tile. There is a light slope to the floor, but no cracks. This is a very old building that has been meticulously modernized.
There is no television in the room. We did not miss it.
We had no issues with noise at all.
Our room was on the fourth floor, which meant addending 44 stairs, which are fairly narrow. There is no elevator. There are rooms on lower floors, but we enjoyed the huge suite and the stairs were worth it.
On the top floor (4th where our suite was located) is the restaurant where we had breakfast and dinner several times. That floor also includes a very large balcony with covered seating areas, which are extraordinarily comfortable. The restaurant and the balcony have wonderful views of the Medina of Fez. You feel like you are a Morrocan aristocrat while staying there.
The food is prepared lovingly by Fatima. Each meal we had was delicious. My wife took a cooking class with Fatima and learned to make Lamb with Almonds, Onions, Tomatos. The salad before the meal had eggplant, carrots, cucumbers and other yummy items. Homemade bread was served with every meal.
The staff is extraordinary. Both Yasmine and Alex are extremely gracious and cater to your every need. Said provided extreaodinary assistance at every turn. He escorted us to the taxis to make sure we did not get lost, which is about a three minute walk to the square which is called “Cinema Amal”.
Other staff, notably Mohamed and Doah were also extremely welcoming.
Alex provided a list of recommended restaurants in the area. He even arranged for a young man to escort us along the walk to one of the restaurants that was about 10 minutes away on foot.
Alex arranged a full day walking tour with Abdul. He gave us a wonderful six hour tour of the area, explaining many nuances of the Medina, and providing customized stops for us to do some shopping for things we desired.
The riad does not have a hamam on property. Alex and Yasmine are also connected to the luxury hotel Palais Faraj, which has a beautiful spa and hamam facility. We tool a taxi there for 20 Durham and had a wonderful experience with the hamam and massages. We also had dinner at the hotel one evening and drinks in the bar, both of which have a spectacular view over the Medina.
Overall we though the experience was an excellent value for the money

Wow! There are so many good things to say. First of all, everyone at Riad Le Calife was above and beyond in kindness and hospitality. Alex and Yasmine were such great hosts who gave us great insight to Fes and even supported us with obtaining a bag we left behind in the Sahara Desert!! Mohamed helped us get taxis, find nearby toothbrushes and toiletries (due to our temporarily displaced bag), and kindly hosted us at the riad's amazing restaurant upstairs (Fatima is an excellent chef, by the way). Beyond the amazing people, the space itself is incredible. Beautifully designed with an amazing view of the city. What a special place to spend part of our honeymoon. We hope to come back!
