Relaxing Stay on Penang Hill !

We stayed at Hickory on Penang Hill last summer and here is my belated review. We had such a lovely stay at the Hickory it was a real highlight of our 3 week trip to Malaysia. Georgetown is a cultural highlight and foodie paradise, but after the city heat our stay at the Hickory Hotel on Penang Hill was a cool and welcoming retreat. The family room was very comfortable for the five of us and great value (2 adults and three kids; 10, 13 and 15). The home cooked dinners and breakfasts were delicious. There is no shortage of activities to keep us entertained. My nature obsessed kids loved the abundant wildlife on the hill, and that is even before we made it to the Habitat nature reserve! I can also recommend a trip to the Escape water part - well worth it. (Better late than never?! - thank you again for a lovely stay!!!)

A serene oasis on Penang Hill– Hickory

I recently stayed at Hickory on Penang Hill and had a truly memorable experience. The location is serene and peaceful, ideal for those looking to unwind and enjoy nature. The weather was pleasant, and the surroundings were calm – perfect for a relaxing getaway. The sign boards were kept at the right place, so that visitors can reach the resort without any challenges.
One of the most exciting parts was the 15-minute walk through the forest from the top of Penang Hill to the resort – a short but thrilling experience that nature lovers will appreciate.
Raaj, the owner, was extremely kind and polite, making us feel genuinely welcome. The staff were equally friendly and helpful, even assisting us in preparing some of the meals we requested – which added a nice personal touch to the stay.
While the train service stops at the nearby station only once every hour, it wasn’t a major issue. Just something to plan around. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the property – everything met or exceeded expectations.
A special tip for visitors: Don’t miss “The Habitat” – a stunning natural attraction on Penang Hill. It’s a real treat for nature lovers. Guests at Hickory get a 20% discount, and Raaj can assist with this as well.
If you're looking for peace, comfort, and warm hospitality in a natural setting, Hickory is a wonderful choice. Highly recommended

Come to Hickory - if you are looking for a relaxing and friendly atmosphere!

The Hickory offers a pleasant, home-y feel Raj, the proprietor make you feel so. I had a good connection with him even prior to booking and checking-in. He has such a good personaliity.
The grounds of the Hickory is most relaxing and offers a good view of Georgetown, especially beautiful with the city lights at night. If you are lucky, you may catch a good sunrise.
The property offers complimentary breakfast and a free-flow of beverages (various types of packet coffee/tea and chocolate) as well as cold drinks (didn't have any ourselves).

Drunken parties here can destroy your stay

DO NOT under any circumstance book Hickory Bungalow on Penang Hill. Our stay in this delightful bungalow was destroyed by the owner renting out the rest of the bungalow to a dozen low life Penang drunks who proceeded to break every rule and party through the night. My family faced abuse, insults and intimidation as the night wore on. The noise carried on until 4 and sleep was out of the question. The staff cowered in fear, the owner’s daughter was powerless, and my wife spent most of the night ready to call the police. If we could have got a jeep to get away in the night, we would have.
It was dreadful, and apparently not the first time this has happened. If the owner prioritises drunk morons over people who actually want to enjoy what the hill has to offer, and puts guests in such difficult positions, he does not deserve your business.
