Shalala is about the experience not the decor. The Manager, Takayama and His wife are exceptional hosts. Their service and attention to detail are heart warming. Be sure to sample the Japanese breakfast that is served with attention to presentation and taste. If you like artificial flowers and white French Provinical furnishings, this is the place for you. If not, just close your eyes and enjoy the flawless service.
The location is 30-45 minutes from Naha so I suggest getting your International license from AAA before you leave and renting a car. Parking is plentiful and the highway is easy to navigate despite driving on the left.

Home-stay alike

This hotel has huge room, clean and with a bath tub, although the exterior looks old. They also provide bath powder for you.
This hotel is recommended for people who rent car and drive around Okinawa. The bus stop is about 15minutes walk from the hotel. However, the hotel staff is very kind to send us to the bus stop by car every morning. Inform them the day before where you will be going and they even print out guide to the places.
Bus rides to the tourist places like the aquarium and international street takes about an hour.
There are restaurants and family mart about 8 minutes walk away at affordable price.
The inconvenience of this hotel is greatly compensated by the hospitality of this hotel. it felt like a home stay. Do try their breakfast at 600yen :) They also gave us souveniers to bring home :)
