Tranquil Tonicello

Tonicello is set in an idyllic location on the Capo Vaticano coast. Surrounded by lush vegetation with amazing views of the Aeolian Islands accommodation is scattered throughout the grounds of the hotel. The atmosphere is tranquil, low key and relaxed.
A little golf buggy provides a taxi service down to the private beach and beach bar, and there is also a Spa onsite .Breakfast is served in the restaurant overlooking the sea, the ideal way to start your day. The railway station is a 10min walk away where you can catch trains to Tropea, Reggio Calabria, Scilla and Pizzo. Hotel staff can help with organising day trips to the Aeolian Islands, and are very helpful with general queries etc. Staff and owners are very polite, helpful, and pleasant
All in all we had a very nice holiday at the Tonicello Hotel.

Rough diamond

I recently stayed at this property and I am returning home with the feeling of having had a half-experience: on one hand, enormous potential, on the other, several critical shortcomings that strongly penalize its quality.
It boasts ample space available and a natural setting surrounded by greenery. Unfortunately, however, these potentials are not utilized to the fullest.
Poor lighting of the outdoor spaces; in fact, in many places during evening walks, we used our phone flashlights.
The room was dated with a malfunctioning air conditioning system, a broken light in the bathroom along with the air extraction system since it was an interior bathroom, an obsolete and small television, in fact, visibility was difficult, the mattress was of such hardness that it made us wake up every morning with back pain, making rest anything but comfortable.
The staff is mostly young but clearly exhausted from work shifts, so their approach to the customer is not the best. The experience with the gentleman at the resort who acts as a guide during the boat excursions was unpleasant, as he was rude and impolite on several occasions.
Meanwhile, the beach lifeguard, the shuttle driver of Colombian origin, the lady who takes care of breakfast, and the beach cook were always friendly, helpful, and attentive to the customer.

Good potential... but a lot to improve.

The property could have excellent potential with more attention and care. I did not find the typical quality of a 4-star hotel.

It cannot be defined as a resort.

Why call yourself a resort when you cannot offer the services of a resort? Just because you are located overlooking a stunning sea? Only the quality of the food (that of lunch and dinner, better not to mention breakfast where sometimes inedible dishes were served) is truly resort-level, everything else absolutely is not. Starting with the rooms: you cannot define as a suite (and therefore you pay much more compared to a classic one) a room with poorly functioning air conditioning (at certain times you would die of heat), with a bird's nest above the entrance door of the room (something never seen before!), with a patio without a patio, with only two chairs and a small table in the middle of stones and leaves and without even a beach umbrella. And last but not least, the cleaning (and by cleaning I simply mean tidying up the room without dusting at all) which is carried out at unthinkable times (at 3 PM in the afternoon while you are resting they come in to tidy up, but where has such a thing ever been seen?).
Services are obviously not their strong suit; in their beautiful restaurant they make you wait quite a while before eating, a veeeery slow service (and in fact two evenings we left early because we were seated from 8 PM and at 10 PM the main course still hadn't arrived). But the icing on the cake is the extreme rudeness and impoliteness of the owner, a person who does not have the slightest idea what it means to interact with a customer. Obviously, it goes without saying that given what I paid, I will never return to this place, and I am sorry because from a naturalistic point of view, the Coast of the Gods is truly stunning. I won't dwell on the pool, the spa, and the gym because it's not worth it. In a resort EVERYTHING should be perfect, while at Tonicello nothing is. Obviously, this is my personal opinion. As a score 3 out of 5 only for food quality and panoramic view

Not a four star,got better amenities at 3 star hotels along the way, no do not disturb sign, woken up by cleaners while

Very disappointed the amenities in the room, very basic soap and shampoo, no shower gel or body lotion , no mini bar selection, no do not disturb sign

Do Not Disturb signs are available at reception and can be provided directly in your room. As for amenities, we offer basic soap and shampoo; if you'd like shower gel, lotion, or other items, we're happy to provide them upon request and discuss options for replenishing the minibar, subject to availability. We're already reviewing the situation with our housekeeping team to avoid disturbances in the morning and improve the in-room experience.
