Exceptional hotel and great location

This is an exceptional hotel. From the attentive, efficient and caring service from every member of staff, the attention to detail and small touches the go along way, to the amazing food, beautiful decor, spa and stunning location. It is a great base for hiking and cycling and the wonderful town of Merano is only a short walk away. Thank you Villa Irma ☺️

Unfortunately not 5 stars - poor price-performance ratio.

On the way back from vacation, we wanted to spontaneously add 2-3 days and stay in Merano. After a long search and review research, Villa Irma was recommended to us and offered as a 5-star hotel. Unfortunately, we noticed upon arrival that the category was likely self-awarded and not granted by an official body.
1. We called the hotel several times to find a suitable suite for our family. We were shown pictures on the website, and pictures were also printed in the booking confirmation. Unfortunately, we did not get a modern, bright, and newly renovated suite, but rather a combination of two unrenovated rooms from the 80s. In this room ensemble, the same durable carpet was laid as in the stairwell. The furniture was more rustic oak with a reddish tint. A built-in kitchenette, however, was very useful. The bathrooms are equipped with natural stone. Actually nice, but unfortunately the details like a yellowed plastic vanity mirror, plastic tissue box, etc., or a broken trash can ruin even the most beautiful natural stone.
My husband then went to the reception to discuss the matter and get the room we had booked, but apparently the few renovated rooms were already taken. We were then offered the option to cancel free of charge and leave. It was 6:00 PM, we were tired from the long drive - so what the heck, let's give it a try. However, we were offered the chance to look at a "renovated" room the next day.
2. After we moved into our rooms, we wanted to go to the bar, which was really beautifully restored. The parlor is actually still almost original. I ordered a cocktail, but quickly got the impression that cocktails, regardless of whether they are on the menu, are not made very often. So, to be on the safe side, I chose a drink from the tap.
Actually, the nice lady from the reception wanted to give us a tour, but she was unfortunately too busy then. The bartender, however, was very nice and told us a little bit about the hotel.
We had reserved a table for 8:00 PM. It felt like we had the nicest table on the terrace. Unfortunately, the service took a very long time to serve and attend to every table within a reasonable amount of time. But with just 3 service staff members, that is impossible to manage. We received an amuse-bouche from the kitchen, which was very good. The appetizers, 1x cooked shrimp on salad, were good but boring and 1. Marinated Alpine salmon trout - which unfortunately did not work at all, because the trout was too fishy for us. For the main course, we chose the veal fillet. That really could have been something. The meat was good and cooked perfectly, as were the puree and the vegetables. Unfortunately, the sauce was merely the pan drippings deglazed with water and slightly thickened. No one ever tasted that. That ruined the whole meal.
We could have said something, of course, but after we had already waited 2 hours for the main course and noticed that almost 70 percent of the tables were complaining to the completely overwhelmed service staff, we let it go.
We just wanted to go to bed.
The children's meals were fine, however. The Parmesan was freshly shaved over the pasta and the chicken nuggets were honestly the highlight of our stay. But almost 270 euros in total was unreasonable for the service provided. The prices are on the menu and would be fine for a good meal.
4. Breakfast: The breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace. The selection was manageable and varied. There were fresh egg dishes. I missed the Prosecco. My husband explained to me that you can book and pay for a deluxe breakfast separately, where a glass of champagne and caviar are then served. The view is really great and the service made an effort. Unfortunately, there were only restrooms on the 2nd floor. So you had a longer walk ahead of you.
5. The elevator unfortunately smelled extremely of old smoke. We cannot say whether that is always the case or if someone just did not follow the no-smoking policy.
Conclusion: The building and the beautiful grounds really have potential. Unfortunately, awarding oneself 5 stars is far too ambitious.
There was no valet parking, there was an intensely noticeable deficit in the amount of staff, the kitchen performance is in its infancy, and the pricing is completely excessive. On the property, there were several areas that were used as bulky waste storage, the garage was infested with saltpeter, and the pool (at the house) needs a general renovation.
The development of this hotel needs time, know-how, staff, an eye for detail, and above all, money.
The operators have the will and are making an effort, but unfortunately, that is not enough. We are giving Villa Irma 4 stars based on the experience of one night. The next day we departed.
A word of caution: You must have checked out by 11:00 AM and must also leave the property. Anyone who stays longer and perhaps wants to enjoy the beautiful natural swimming pool in the garden must pay 100 euros extra. But perhaps you can speak with the reception.

The paint is peeling!

In the truest sense of the word, the paint is peeling, both in the house and in the garden. I had been looking forward to my stay at the Hotel Villa Irma and was very disappointed. Many small to larger maintenance issues in the rooms and especially in the bathrooms. My balcony was the forecourt to the fire escape, and other guests walked past my balcony door on my "balcony"!!! Wi-Fi was 80% too weak and therefore unusable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially for these prices.

Still a beautiful hotel.... However, we greatly missed the Meister family with their warmth.

Still a beautiful hotel nestled in a park-like garden landscape....
The rooms are pure comfort.
Starting with the stylish furnishings, view, beds, coffee bar, etc.... The bathroom could be a bit more modern.
Breakfasting in the skylounge - breathtaking.
The service staff is excellent!!!
What we truly missed was the welcoming culture and familial warmth of the Meister family....
This warmth used to be felt everywhere and made our stays feel like a little piece of home, enhancing the comfort character.
The Irma hotel is now run by Monika Wieser....
Unfortunately, it cannot be compared to the Meister family....
Due to the somewhat cool demeanor, the certain extra that used to define the charm of the hotel is simply missing.

True luxury is something else

Villa Irma is a wonderful place. However this experience was completely ruined by a bad SPA experience. We booked two massages, which should be the culmination of relaxation. It was actually quite an unpleasant experience.
First of all, the therapist stayed in the room without leaving any privacy to change us. The situation was not comfortable at all as there was not a minimum of atmosphere, light straight in the face and not even a towel to cover but a tied sheet, bassoon style. The massage was not a massage ... there was no technique, not a minimum of pressure .. I do not know how to define it. We pointed out this situation at the reception who did not take into account our feedback in the least. At the check out they were clearly aware but they pretended not to... indeed, in the bill the massages had even been priced more than what was written in the brochure. Which we pointed out and thankfully adjusted at the correct price. So beautiful everything, but from such a structure you expect a luxury service. Let’s go with a bitter taste in our mouths, shame

Gentile Ospite,
Cordiali saluti.
