Serene Villa with birdsong and beautiful views of Barga
5* Gluten Free breakfast. Other allergies catered for too, including Lactose Intolerance. Amazing selection in separate basket including sweet treats and savoury crackers, even Schar Gluten Free Bread. There was a separate toaster for Coeliac use only.
“Regular people” are also well catered for with hard boiled eggs still warm from being made earlier. I saw Riccardo put the croissants in the oven. There were other proper bakery standard pastries too. Whole pieces of fruit. A comfortable place to have breakfast. There was a spirit of generosity and warm service. We were offered a 2nd cup of macchiato (or any style of proper coffee we wanted).
A microwave and a kettle was available outside of breakfast time, with multiple types of tea. There was an Honesty Bar with beer, bottled water, and soft drinks. We enjoyed the balcony and its view all afternoon.
Superb location is easy stroll from the bus stop with views of the Aqueduct (the path might be challenging with big bags). If you are in the town, you can’t *see* the town, so the views of Barga are gorgeous from the room and the balcony next to the breakfast room. The room itself was basic, but we had seen the pictures. Two single mattresses pushed together and made up with one sheet. That’s huge, but the bed frame is even bigger, and we knew about this beforehand. It was fine for sleeping, but because visually I saw the turquoise bedspread, my eye thought that was the end of the bed. I banged my shin and I tripped over the wooden corner in separate incidents. Anyone with mobility issues/ visual impairment will need to be careful. It was a spacious room and there were plugs on both sides of the bed.
My apologies to the guest next door who said she could hear us in her room. We weren’t arguing, just chatting. I feel I must mention that the walls are thin, because this is exactly what this platform is for, to offer advice to fellow travellers. Light sleepers: Bring ear plugs. We are really sorry. It is in the name “Ostello”, but that doesn’t mean I am okay about unwittingly disturbing someone else. I should possibly give 4 ½ stars instead of 5, but our stay was so lovely, I am inclined to round up rather than down, because of the kindness of the host. He also let us leave our bags for a few hours after we checked out. It is a restful place. We would love to stay here again.

Family weekend in Garfagnana
Minimal structure but well maintained, spotless, pleasant breakfast, polite and welcoming staff .. all included in a beautiful historic villa, at the gates of the center of Barga. A good foothold for those who do not have many pretensions and want to turn well the Garfagnana.

Clean rooms, great breakfast the lady is very courteous and helpful. Great location to visit the historic center of Barga

Barga Heaven
Such a stunning building with great character set in beautiful and spacious gardens. Wonderful views, comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and Adele is just so welcoming and helpful, nothing is a problem! Ample parking and just a two minute walk to the beautiful giardino and the same into the old town. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back!

What a beautiful location Villa Gherardi is in. The view from our room was stunning. Room was lovely.
