Please do not book this hotel if you expect cleanliness and a good night's sleep.
This was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in.
Room - Our room was absolutely filthy when we arrived, the sheets were changed, that's it! The floor, desk and chair were filthy and the bathroom was disgusting - toothpaste spit (including blood) in the sink and on the walls, feaces in the toilet, dirt and grime in the shower and soap dispenser, dirty glasses, towel rail missing, no hand towel, no floor mat etc. etc. We had to ask at reception if they could send someone to clean it. The first time they wiped the sink and toilet, not good enough. The second morning I asked for a deep clean, they did but it still wasn't great. We were actually afraid to touch anything. I tried to book another hotel for the second night but unfortunately there weren't any rooms available nearby. Thankfully we were only staying 2 nights.
Sleep - Don't expect to get any sleep unless you bring earplugs. It's on the main Letterkenny road, surrounded by 3 petrol stations which are a hot spot for little boy racers, they literally rally up and down the road for hours at night. Then there are people leaving the bar at 2am roaring and shouting. On our second night a drunk couple in the room next door had a blazing fight and repeatedly slammed doors, moved furniture and walked up and down the corridor roaring and shouting. At 1.30am I had to go down to reception to ask them to sort it out. The Gardai had to be called. The walls are paper thin so we could hear everything including another room playing music and talking loudly until 4.30am. The room was also unbearably hot, there's no air-con, we couldn't leave the window open because of the noise and the same for the industrial fan we received for the second night. I personally sleep for approximately 6 hours over two nights.
Breakfast - Good selection, food was good, however our table was covered in crumbs from previous guests. Glasses were dirty, messy cereal area and staff could do with having clean uniforms. Cleanliness is a big issue with this hotel. We skipped breakfast on the second morning because of this.
Also there wasn't a welcome pack with reception number, breakfast times etc.. Old water in the kettle, tea tray was grubby with expired coffee sachets, dirty cups and an old jelly sweet left in it! Not very appealing!
We had dinner the first night in the bar, it was very good, the fish and chips were excellent.
This is not a 3 star hotel, there is no excuse for the dirt and grime and it's very dated. I'm sure there are more hygienic hostels. It needs a complete overhaul and a proper manager. Avoid at all costs if you have a basic standard of hygiene.
1 star for the staff, they were very friendly.
Just to add - We booked two rooms for two nights, we received a refund for one room for one night due to the issues we had.

discreet hotel with restaurant
room quite spacious, cleanliness acceptable. good breakfast, staff available to order irish breakfast. pub-restaurant on the ground floor, good value for money.

The Frontier Hotel
Outstanding service from the minute we arrived, plenty of parking. So welcoming and a shout to Annemarie fir lookimg after us and the the porter who had to wake up to let us in ! Overall a little hotel with a big heart

Family wedding
We came over to Ireland for a family wedding and stayed here for 3 nights, rooms of a decent size and clean, beds very comfortable, the shower took a bit of time to heat up but wasn’t an issue as got hot water eventually. The staff are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. The food was lovely and great cooked breakfast we just had the mini breakfast.
