Amazing Experience In Riverdale B&B House
Last Friday, 26th June, my wife and I set off on a trip around the west coast of Ireland, stopping off at all the places my mum's side of the family came from before heading on to Derry, Belfast and Dublin. As someone who grew up in most of my life in Spain a a bit in Scotland, this was a really special journey for me, reconnecting with my Irish roots.
Our first night was at Avril and Neil's B&B, and honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better start to the trip. We arrived fairly late, but Avril still went above and beyond to make sure we could get something to eat in Athlone, which was hugely appreciated after a long day's travelling.
The following morning, Neil spent a good wee while chatting with us, recommending places to visit and suggesting different stops for the rest of our journey. His local knowledge was brilliant and helped make our trip even better.
Both Avril and Neil were incredibly warm, welcoming and down to earth, and they made us feel right at home from the minute we arrived. I'd happily stay with them again without a second thought and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone visiting the area.

Wonderful Stay
We had a wonderful stay in the Willow Room at Riverdale B&B on May 25th. The historic house is full of charm and character, and our hosts, Neil and Avril, were very welcoming. We enjoyed chatting with them and appreciated their recommendations for local restaurants, pubs, and live music.
Breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the pleasant conversations with the other guests made the morning even more enjoyable. Neil took a genuine interest in everyone’s travel plans, even providing us with a list of worthwhile stops to make on our way to our next destination.
And we can’t forget the sword from The Hobbit—what fun! Thank you, Neil and Avril, for an entertaining, memorable, and thoroughly enjoyable stay. We would happily return.

Terrible - Zero Hospitality. Unstable hosts.
We recently stayed at the Riverdale House B&B. It could not have been worse. Zero Hospitality. We recommend looking elsewhere. On arrival, we asked: 1) whether we could have a cup of ice: 2) we also advised that we needed to leave by 7:30 am in order to drop off our rental car at Dublin airport before our flight home, and we asked whether the proprietor could just put a few items from their continental breakfast into a bag; and 3) we asked for any dinner restaurant recommendations, since the proprietor never responded to our prior email request so we might make reservations for Friday night.
Answers: No - we do not have or provide ice for guests. Believe that?
Continental Breakfast is strictly served from 8:30 to 10:30 am only. Owner says - No, I cannot put together a few items for you for breakfast either tonight or by 7:30 am. I cannot get up before 8:00 am. Don't ask me to get up before 8:00 am.
As to dinner restaurant recommendations: We are not a hotel. We are not on standby for guest services - we provide only a bed and breakfast. Look at our website or use google to research dinner restaurants.
The utter lack of hospitality of the proprietors was astonishing and difficult for us to understand. The proprietor's husband then became belligerent and violent, physically took and threw my bags 10' outside of the hotel front door before I had even carried them up to our room, and told us to leave, because it was unacceptable, "in their view", that we, as paying guests would, in their view, make "demands" "in their house" for a glass of ice and/or an early bag of a few breakfast items, or ask for dinner recommendations. We made no such "demands". He said we get 4 or more calls a day for people looking for rooms. We do not need your business. Leave. I was assaulted, pushed against the wall, glasses bent and knocked off my face onto the floor, and had a cut on the side of my eye.
There is no excuse for such violent behavior simply because the proprietors may not have liked our inquiries or requests, as paying guests, for guest services which in virtually any other B&B in the world are readily accommodated. The proprietors then allowed us to stay overnight since we had already paid for the room.
We could not wait to get out of the place. Be guided accordingly. We do not recommend this terrible establishment.

Best night's sleep in weeks
Myself and my partner, after a few long working weeks were visiting family on a rather emotional trip. Staying at Neil and Avril's was just what we needed...I had the best night's sleep I'd had in weeks and we were both able to unwind in what was . Bed sooo comfortable, soft fresh bed linens, room incredibly peaceful and such a lovely warm welcome from our two amazing hosts.
Some people are just born to work in hospitality for their help, kindness and thoughtfulness and our hosts had these and more, in bucket loads. I wish we had stayed much longer.
I watched at breakfast as each guest was responded to personally with information and suggestions on getting around locally & much further afield - Neil is a mine of useful information), without others left wanting.
Fab' buffet breakfast; delicious fruit salad, cheeses, meats, etc etc and not forgetting Avril's awesome and incredibly moreish home made bread (I'd come back for that alone).
We WILL be back.

Lovely hosts, lovely place
What a stay! Just one night booked as a stopover to Galway and boy are we glad we did! Avril and Neil couldn’t have been more accommodating, advising us on sights on our route the next day. We took all advice and now have a phenomenal trip planned. The rooms were immaculate and breakfast more than ample for energising our next leg. Thank you both; you’re truly masters of the industry!
