Old world charm
We have just stayed at the Udai Billas in Dungapur . The shining light of this beautiful palace from the 1940s is the tranquil setting along the lake with vast grounds to explore and a wonderful swimming pool . The staff were simply the best the hotel manager couldn’t do enough for us . The rooms are spacious and although you feel that they are unchanged from the days of the Maharaja’s in the 1940s with rooms filled with stuffed animals from their past hunts it’s like stepping back into another world . The breakfasts and dinners were lovely we thoroughly enjoyed our couple of nights .

A unforgettable experience
I truly loved the experience! The road till Dungarpur from Udaipur was super scenic and smooth, felt like we were in a hill station. The vintage car collection and the hangar are a must-see. The bar is beautifully done, and the attention to detail makes it even better. The warmth and hospitality were amazing. The pool facing the lake gives an infinity pool feel, and the food was delicious. You should definitely visit on your next trip to Udaipur!

Floating candles and the Juna Mahal
We loved our stay here. The rooms are great and the bar in the car museum is such a fun surprise. The Swimmingpool is lovely though unfortunately cold when we were there. The dining table is the largest I’ve ever seen with water in the middle that was filled with petals and floating candles. But the best thing of all about the palace was the Juna Mahal which is the old palace. It is absolutely fabulous. Painted to within an inch of its life. Seven floors of jaw dropping beauty. Do not forget the Kama sutra cupboard

A wonderful lake side palace full of royal eccentricities
This is a very nice place located right on the edge of a peaceful lake. The palace itself is the main residence of the maharaja of Dungarpur and is very well maintained. As you walk through reception towards the rooms you will be greeted by an impressive free standing building that I think used to house the maharajas concubines (many years ago obvs ). You can choose poolside or lake view rooms, we checked both and chose lake view (room 21) which we did not regret. The pool area is quite impressive right by the lake’s edge and an excellent place to do some drone shots if you’re not an idiot who flies your drone straight into the tree in the corner …. Anyway …. from the evening forward is where I think the beauty of this place begins. First of all to get to the bar you walk past a car in a tree and through the maharaja’s fine collection of classic cars and the bar itself is a motor themed area where I think the wonderful eccentric personality of his royal highness starts … as we sipped our double g&t’s the central bar area suddenly started rising up on hydraulics. Course it does. Then we were shown to what used to be the family indoor tennis courts which he had later decided to instead fill entirely with an old disused army aircraft. Upstairs in the hangar was his art collection heavily influenced by cheetahs and flowing turbans and a further classic car in the middle. I forgot to say that the pathway to the bar is lit up by a set of runway lights showing you the way. After this we went for our evening meal on what was the longest marble table I’d ever seen … with a pool in the middle … of course … which felt like something from James Bond as it was only us there that evening. Fantastic. We met the maharaja’s lovely daughter that evening who said she’d gladly take us out the next day in one of the classic cars …. which she did! A wonderful old open top Cadillac. Next day we were also very fortunate to meet her mother too. All in all a fantastic 2 nights there. The food was good, the pool excellent, the staff friendly, the location amazing and the maharaja’s eccentricities second to none. You simply must visit You heard it here first … I’ve asked to pass onto the maharajas that he should definitely have a submarine for the lake and I think he’ll like that idea

Simply splendid!
We just loved everything about this splendid hotel. The manager was so helpful, and the property is simply beautiful. Our room was comfortable and tastefully furnished and the exterior of the hotel has mature planted grounds overlooking the tranquil lake and island temple. Sitting g beneath the flowering floss silk tree by the pool, we watched so many birds. A sunbird and bee- eater in the branches above us; storks, egrets, stilts, cormorants, ducks and geese on the lake. What more could you ask for? The food was really good, and what a bar! Quite exceptional.
