Receptionist rude and unprofessional
Extremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Reception Experience
I had booked a room online at Itsy Jansi Residency, Coimbatore, with a standard check-in time of 12:00 PM. Since I arrived early at around 6:30 AM, I had already mentioned my request for an early check-in in the booking remarks.
Unfortunately, my experience with the receptionist was extremely disappointing and distressing. From the moment we arrived, his attitude was rude, dismissive, and highly unprofessional. Instead of welcoming us as guests, he spoke in a manner that made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.
Initially, without properly verifying the booking details in the system, he informed us that no room had been booked under our name. Rather than assisting us in resolving the issue, he appeared more interested in avoiding responsibility. When we politely requested him to recheck the booking, he became argumentative and raised his voice.
What was even more disturbing was his behavior towards my wife. He asked unnecessary and inappropriate personal questions in a sarcastic and disrespectful manner, including questions such as whether we were married and why we had come to the hotel. The tone and manner in which these questions were asked felt insulting and carried inappropriate undertones. Such questioning is completely unacceptable and has no place in professional hospitality service.
When we requested to speak with the manager, the receptionist was initially reluctant to provide the manager's contact details. We felt helpless as there was no proper escalation support available at that time. Another staff member who witnessed the interaction suddenly disappeared from the reception area during the incident, offering no assistance. A third person was present but was unable to communicate effectively in either Tamil or English and therefore could not help resolve the situation.
At one point, we even attempted to contact local authorities for assistance, but our calls went unanswered, leaving us with no immediate support.
The receptionist clearly stated that we could either wait until 12:00 PM for check-in or leave the premises, and that no room would be provided before the standard check-in time. However, it later became evident that rooms were actually available. The situation suddenly changed when he informed us that a room could be provided immediately upon payment of an additional ₹600 as an early check-in charge, which we eventually paid.
The issue was never about the additional charge. We fully understand hotel policies regarding early check-in fees. The real issue was the receptionist's attitude, lack of professionalism, poor communication, unwillingness to assist, and disrespectful behavior toward guests.
A hotel stay begins at the reception desk, and first impressions matter. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst and most uncomfortable check-in experiences I have encountered. No guest should be subjected to rude treatment, unnecessary personal questioning, raised voices, or a lack of basic courtesy and hospitality.
I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously, reviews the conduct of the concerned receptionist, and provides proper customer service and hospitality training to ensure that future guests are treated with the dignity, respect, and professionalism they deserve.
