I was able to stay calm.
The inn is air conditioned. Dormitory beds are equipped with light-shielding curtains, power supplies and lights in each bed. If the air conditioning is cold, you can rent an extra futon.
And you can cook for yourself. However, please note that you cannot put beef and pork in the fridge. It was possible to check in late at night. Please consult with us in advance if applicable.

Theft/Security breach- backed by cctv and police involment
We stayed March 21–24, 2026. The place felt less like a hostel and more like a private residence for a tight-knit group of long-term men. My wife was the only female guest on the floor and felt uncomfortable from the start.
The Incident:-
On March 23rd, money went missing from our lockers. After four hours of CCTV review it was unambiguous - a resident guest was caught on camera picking up our keys, opening the locker, taking the cash, and putting the keys back. He eventually confessed. Despite clear footage and a confession, management let him stay in the same building that very night. What followed was an ordeal where long-term residents indirectly pressured us to settle privately and not involve anyone.
Management:-
The owner's response was the most disappointing part. During the CCTV review he immediately pointed toward the suspect without hesitation the next morning he denied any suspicion and blamed us for being careless with our keys.
His favourite argument that we have cctv for your safety and we cant blame someone until caught.
Others on-site informally hinted this may not have been the first incident involving this person, which made the lack of any preventive action even harder to accept.
Seeing no concrete response, we visited the local police station the next morning and explained everything.
Not wanting legal complications in an unfamiliar city, we didn't file a formal complaint but we were eventually refunded. When we cancelled our remaining nights, the owner had the audacity to say he was waiving the cancellation fee "as a courtesy" as if that were a favour and not the bare minimum.
Final Note:-
This is my personal first-hand experience. If you are a woman, traveling as a couple, or simply value basic security please do your research before booking. The culture here protects its regulars, not its new guests.

Good Hostel Experience
The reception was located on the fourth floor and there’s a lift that goes directly there. Check-in was a strange experience. The receptionist asked me to cancel my booking and re-book directly with the hostel.
The hostel appears to be a converted flat with the entry taking us through the common area where there’s also a kitchen (with microwave, fridge/freezer and cooking stove), dining table, washing & drying machines and two extra sinks. The sinks are necessary as there’s only one bathroom where the toilet and showers are located. Although I think one of the larger dorms has an ensuite. There is hot water in the bathroom with a manual switch to turn on the hot water boiler and it works well enough.
My dorm has 4 single beds arranged in a row. Each bed had an electrical point and a privacy light. The mattress is Indian style thin and you can pretty much feel the wood board underneath, but it was comfortable enough for me. Each bed is allocated a locker and the hostel will provide a key. The locker is a good size and large enough to accommodate even a large backpack. The room had both A/C and two ceiling fans. Although the fans were enough to keep the room cool enough for sleeping, there is no ventilation and the room does get humid when the door is closed.
The staff do a great job of keeping the place clean. The floors are swept and mopped several times a day. The shared bathroom is also clean, albeit basic and functional. These are also cleaned regularly.
Location wise, the hostel is far from Howrah and Kolkata Terminus, but walking distance to Sealdah. The nearest metro line is probably Mahatma Gandhi Road, which is about 15 minutes walk. The hostel isn’t all that convenient for the main sights of the city, but the sights in Kolkata are pretty spread out anyway.
A simple breakfast is provided consisting of bananas, bread, jam, toast and chai. It does get boring after a few days.
Overall, I had a good stay. The staff are friendly and help. The common area makes it easy to chat with other guests and there’s an above average hostel vibe.
