Bright Place, Bleak Times

That any place stays open miracle. That manager, Jean Senatus, is not discouraged is a miracle - we were his only guests all week. Orkeen, the cook and main person for everything else, makes a wonderful dinner - but it’s necessary to tell Jean what you want for dinner and he will try to find it. It’s possible to get good fish - or anything else - what prices are now as if one more in a restaurant in any good hotel anywhere.
.We don’t buy anything now. he says. You cannot hope someone will come to eat and want a fish. He laughed. The cats were eating well when we did.
We had a wonderful time. There was no hot water, and there were almost no other “blans” (white people) in town. But it remains one of the most beautiful bars I’ve ever been in! My girlfriend felt the same way. Despite having to fly in to Santa Domingo and take a seven hour bus ride, three hours to go through customs and immigration and necessary to bribe the immigration officer ($20) the trip was worth it – only if she spend a week. 30 hours to take the bus to Port Dallas on the border and take a boat 4 hours in Anse-au-Pitres to Marigot. The boat hugs the shore and it’s the most beautiful boat ride we’ve ever taken. Millions of years of waves crashing into the rock have left the part of the coastline simply grand beyond description - a stunning work of art.
then Haitian reality research itself. A brutal hour outside of town due to the condition of the road which had been previously been paved.. (Once upon a time it had been called Cocaine Alley - but that was years ago, but now? Even the drug dealers don’t want any part of the country and If you want anything like that? Son, you would better bring it yourself.
At this time, Halti is ONLY for venture travelers - there seem to be ZERO tourists in what was going to be a tourist town!
We had been assured that despite a Level Four Travel Warning (said it was one of the most dangerous places on earth we found it the same friendly and peaceful as it’s always been.
Which is more than merely safe - it’s a great town,. A
friendly place! And it seems like Port-au-Prince, the terrifying capital of this luckless country, is a continent away.
And we lucked out and were given a suite , the best suite in the Hotel, for the price of a courtyard room! Why? So you’ll write a review. But I don’t write reviews! Jean, the manager laughed. I’m not giving away anything. You’re probably going the only guests!
And we were. Sadly. That we were.
The Hotel Florita lives up to its storied reputation for charm - and hope once again she’s better days.

Best cocktail i ever had!

I had the Best cocktail at hotel Florita s bar. I was there for food and drinks, and the service was excellent , the staff was very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate me. Even if you are not staying at the hotel I strongly recommend the bar.
