Loved the view, hated the effort to see it!
I’d read reviews of ‘the hill’ before booking, but being from Sheffield (and living on one of its seven hills) and being a regular exerciser in her 40s I didn’t think it would be an issue. I don’t know if it was the August heat, but myself and partner really struggled all week, so much so that we probably spent more time around the pool than intended. To go downhill into town, there’s an uphill first, and to go downhill to the beach , there’s a steep decline and lots of steps. Everything is at the bottom of the hill - nearest supermarket, bars, restaurants, bus, beach, town. I naively thought there maybe something on its door step given the proximity to town, expecting it to be a little more built up all the way (I appreciate that’s a me problem!)
The hotel itself was lovely and the view from the pool and our terrace was spectacular, day or night. The rooms felt a bit like they’d only been part refurbished. Half of the bathroom being modern with lovely tiles and light up mirror, but then having the original shower tray and shower curtain set up looked a bit odd. Similarly, modern looking bed and furniture but god awful net curtains to the door and window that you had to do battle with every time you came in or out of the room. The aircon was the best I’ve ever known in a hotel - really quiet so you could keep it on all night (just as well as it was still 28 degrees at night)
I absolutely loved that there was zero battle for loungers - I think there were people checking out each day, meaning you could choose a spot before the next arrivals. One day there was only my partner and I around the pool at 3pm, which I’ve never known before in high season. It also helped that guests were considerate and just came and went as they wanted, rather than leaving towels on the loungers when they headed out. The day beds weren’t well used - more loungers on the grassy area would probably work better
I didn’t see the point of the honesty bar, as it was nicer to sit on the terrace with our cheaper supermarket purchases from our own cold fridge. If only the bar stayed open, played some light music early evening for an aperitif or nightcap it would have made the hill so much more bearable. It’s also a shame that the entrance next to the car park couldn’t be used by residents because that would have cut the hill outside the hotel off completely.
I was also underwhelmed by Megali Ammos as I thought this could be a good alternative to Skiathos town at night. The restaurants looked nice but you had to walk around the back and side of each one to check them out unless you wanted to walk along the beach, which I didn’t fancy after a nice shower and getting changed for an evening out. Cafe Del Mar was lovely during the day but zero vibes at night. Dirgey 80s ballads being played and only about 6 people in on a Saturday night which was such a shame.
Breakfast was pretty basic but had everything you needed for some sustenance
I’d probably stay there again, earlier in the season, mainly because good pools are in short supply in Skiathos town.

Wonderful hotel with an incredibly beautiful view.
We stayed for a week at Hotel Rene in August 2026. We had the best week and enjoyed the hotel's lovely pool area, with the most wonderful view over the sea.
The room was perfect for us, with lovely beds, good space, and a nice spacious bathroom. The same wonderful view from our terrace over the sea
We can recommend eating at the hotel's bar, where the sweetest Thai lady made wonderful Thai dishes. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful and there is generally a very relaxed atmosphere.
A hotel we will definitely use when we travel to Skiathos again.

Great hotel with lovely views and charming staff. Pool is very nice and there are more than enough loungers.

Fantastic holiday
We went on a group of 6 adults and 3 kids aged from to 4 to 67 and had a fantastic time.
The hotel is a short downhill walk down into town or Megali Ammos beach. Yes there is a steep hill back up to the hotel but even the older members managed to walk it twice a day and the view is worth the effort. Taxi back up from town is 10 euros but the taxis are busy whenever the ferry arrives.
The hotel is less than 5 minutes to bus stop 4 so the popular beaches are easily accessible.
The hotel rooms, pool and communal area are spotlessly clean.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The pool was seldom busy for more than 2 hours a day so it was like having a private pool most of the day.
The bar is well stocked and the snacks are good and the Thai food is exquisite.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and would happily return.

Good hotel for the money
Small and cozy hotel. To be only 3 stars is standard for a good hotel. You can see improvements and the hotel is only 3 stars, but it is absolutely a good hotel.
Clean and neat. Good cleaning of the rooms every day. But I see that there is a little extra cleaning missing on the bathroom walls. A little dust and dirt on the wall by the mirror and under the bench in the bathroom. The bathroom has been renovated and is nice, large shower. Worn-out showerhead and poor pressure from the showerhead. Shower curtain in the shower is pulling down. This is very unsanitary and the curtain was black with soap residue and dirt at the bottom near the floor. Simple room otherwise, but good beds. The air conditioning was good. Safe box for deposit. Pool beach towels that also cost extra. The 3-star hotel probably differs a bit from the 4-star, in how often such things are included. Simple breakfast with a simple selection of spreads. But they have eggs, bacon, fruit, and yogurt. The bread was of the simple kind and there was always a queue at the toaster as most wanted to toast the bread. No fresh rolls, only bread. Juice and coffee. Nice outdoor area where you can eat breakfast with a great view.
The pool area is nice and has a view, but the towel mafia was in place early every morning to reserve beds, as in many other places, and unfortunately the staff did nothing to prevent this.
We had a late flight home at departure and it was not possible to check out late. But we could use the pool and stay on the premises until we wanted to leave if we wished. We found by chance that they had a room with a shower that could be used. It was not mentioned by those at the reception, but I found out this from other guests who had also coincidentally discovered and used the shower room.
This room could definitely use an upgrade, but it's better than nothing! Overall, it's a good hotel for the money.
