An unforgettable 5-star experience – we are loving every moment!

We are currently staying at Hotel Daphnila Bay, and it is absolutely incredible. The absolute highlight of our trip is our stunning bungalow, located on the very first row right on the beach. Waking up every morning just steps away from the crystal-clear water and falling asleep to the sound of the gentle waves is pure paradise. The service here is strictly 5-star. Every single staff member goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome, attending to every detail with genuine warmth. The amenities are top-notch, from the pristine beach facilities and beautiful pools to the exceptional dining options. Everything is perfectly curated for a luxurious, stress-free vacation. If you are looking for luxury, comfort, and a premium beachside location in Corfu, this is the place to be. We already know we will be coming back! Caterina

Disappointed!

I can’t tell you how disappointed I was in this hotel. After ready all the positive reviews I was hoping for something completely different to what we got. My daughter is autistic so we spent months looking for a hotel that wouldn’t be too noisy and crowded, but quite low key with a variety of activities. The hotel describes itself with words such as peaceful, relaxing and luxury but it was far from this!
Check in was fine but we weren’t offered a welcome drink which isn’t the usual from a high end hotel but we were met with friendly staff who took us to our room. We arrived late so the member of staff said we could get late night snacks, which we went to get but no one told us what to do or how to order. We waited for quite a while then went to the bar, who told us to sit down and someone would be over. The menu consisted of 4 toast sandwiches (that weren’t toasted) but my daughter didn’t like any of them so had to miss out.
We were quite happy with our room and the views are just stunning. I don’t think you could get a better view! The bed was huge and really comfy. We had wine and sweets in our room when we arrived waiting for us. There weren’t enough hangers so we had to put most things in draws. I didn’t think there was enough storage space for a family of 4. Maybe more shelving inside the wardrobes would have helped. There was also no full length mirror. The cleaning was ok. Our sink was never cleaned properly and towards the end of our stay we wouldn’t if the floor had been mopped because our feet were black when walking on it.
The first day started off well. We explored the pool first and managed to get a sun-bed for two of us. The children didn’t get one but they spent most of their time in the pool anyway. The pool wasn’t too busy and drinks service was good. We went down to the beach in the afternoon and managed to get a sun lounger fine but the sun loungers were not fit for purpose. I had read this in another review. They were the worst sun loungers we’ve ever come across. You sit on them and they smack you in the back. You can find more decent ones and swap them around but this shouldn’t be the case in a “luxury” hotel. That night the Greek night was on and we really enjoyed the show.
However, this is where things started to go wrong. As the UK school holidays started the hotel was extremely busy and did not have the facilities to cater for the amount of people staying in the hotel. If sun-bed wars and wasps are your thing, then this is the hotel for you! I missed having breakfast with my family everyday so I could get a sun lounger by the pool as the children liked to enjoy part of the day in the pool. Towels get removed if they are left on a sun lounger before 9am so most people sat on them until 9am and then left for breakfast. Some people would leave their towels on the loungers and go to the beach and not come back for hours and staff never removed the towels. If we couldn’t get a sun lounger then we would go to the beach but you struggled to get loungers that were in the shade as there are only a handful of sun loungers on the beach with an umbrella. The pool area was so overcrowded and very noisy, hardly the relaxing holiday we had hoped for! Sometimes there were no towels available so one morning we saw a guy sitting on his sun lounger without a towel and then when they eventually delivered more towels he got up to get a towel and someone else took his sun lounger!
The staff serving drinks around the pool were lovely and so friendly but there simply wasn’t enough of them. You could spend over an hour waiting for someone to take your order and then often drinks wouldn’t arrive or would be delivered to someone else, or the wrong drinks would given. I was happy to go to the bar myself but the bar staff didn’t seem happy with this and would often send me away and tell me someone would come over, but they never did. Also the bar area absolutely smelt awful. It looked clean but the smell was terrible. Sometimes our glasses had a horrible smell to them. We much preferred the beach area of drinks as you could get your own so didn’t have a long wait. The staff at the beach bar were amazing and made the best drinks. I do miss my morning frappes.
One thing I found odd was that on a Sunday the hotel had no activities at all on offer and had minimum staff, which meant the pool and beach area was even busier as there was nothing else to do and it was impossible to get drinks service. None of the restaurants were open so everyone went to the buffet restaurant which was very over crowded. My daughter accidentally had a plate dropped on her foot which I believe was due to the area being so crowded. I do have to thank the staff who came to care for her as her foot was badly cut. They came to help straight away and helped calm her down.
Then there was the wasp issue! It was so bad, we couldn’t even eat at the Greek restaurant and had to leave our food as we were swarmed by them. This was a shame as it was a lovely setting and the food was excellent. The wasps were so quick and were literally digging into the meat. My son has had an allergic reaction to a wasp sting before so we couldn’t stay. I do feel like the could do more to easy the wasp situation but having somewhere inside to eat or burning coffee etc.
My children accessed the kids club a couple of times but due to the activities on offer and their age (9 and 8) they were quite bored. The staff were lovely and kept them safe, but I think the activities were aimed at younger children and toddlers. My daughter did enjoy the mocktail making though. We did find the hotel quite disjoined and everything was so far apart. If you were lucky enough to find a sun lounger but wanted to do one of the activities they were often at the other end of the hotel and due to the hill it was a pain to get around. The sports area was also quite far away. My kids did enjoy the outdoor cinema and I enjoyed the aqua aerobics.
The entertainment was quite poor for an all inclusive hotel. Again you struggled to find a seat to watch the performances and the performances were mainly singers. We enjoyed the Greek night and acrobats. If you’re here for more than one week the same entertainment gets repeated again.
There was lack of toilets around the pool area and in the evening there would often be a long wait at the ladies, with only two toilets available as one was out of order for the whole duration of our stay. If you were outside it was quite a long walk to the toilets. I can imagine this was difficult for those with young children.
One thing we did love about the hotel was the food! Some of the best food we’ve had in an all inclusive hotel! The buffet was always good though a little repetitive towards the end of our stay. We had some lovely lamb and pork cooked to perfection. There needs to be more options for children. Please consider children who are neurodiverse and struggle with eating. We always encourage our children to eat fresh food and try different things but my daughter has a condition called ARFID and there wasn’t many things she would eat. No chicken nuggets etc.
The pizzas at the beach bar was delicious and a big shout out to the lady who made lovely omelettes every morning with a smile on her face. One of the high lights of the holiday was the Greek cooking show. The chef and the lady who presented were fab and the food was excellent! Plus there were hardly any wasps as there was no meat on offer.
To get away from the crowds we took the taxi boat over to the sister hotels which were quieter but you had to buy food and drinks there so we couldn’t do this everyday when we’d already spent quite a lot of money on an all inclusive hotel.
We enjoyed the BBQ boat trip and this was the best day of the holiday. We didn’t go to the dine out restaurant where the Durrells was filmed as someone told us not to bother going because of the wasps.
We complained after two days of sunbed wars and a manager came to speak to us. Things got better the next day but for one day only. I feel like this hotel consider aesthetics over practicality. If they are not willing to provide the facilities for the amount of guests then they should reduce their capacity. I was hesitant to pay the amount of money we did for this holiday but the reviews made it sound amazing. We’ve stayed in much better hotels for a lot less money and in peak time and we’ve never had to reserve sun loungers or wait hours for drinks etc. We love Corfu and have been many times but I don’t think I could ever stay in an all inclusive hotel again after this experience. You get much more value for money going self catering. I do feel like we were completely mis sold and I’ve never felt so disappointed in a holiday before that I wanted to come home. I am suspicious about the amount of positive reviews this hotel gets as most of the guests we spoke to weren’t happy and even the manager said they’d had a lot of complaints. We often heard people complaining at Reception. If you read the average and negative reviews they echo a lot of what I have said.
It’s a shame as the views are stunning, the food is good and the staff are very friendly, but to not be able to relax properly due to inadequate facilities and constant wasps is not acceptable. I’m sure the manager will come back with the same generic response as the other reviews that I’ve read but really they just need to do something about it or warn their guests that they do not have enough facilities or staff for peak times before booking. This hotel could be a great place with the right management. To add to more disappointment we were celebrating our anniversary on our last day and our booking agent had emailed the hotel asking them to do something special but they never did. They emailed back saying they would put a cake in our room etc but they didn’t. So if you’re celebrating something special, don’t bother with this hotel.

Dear amanda-james86,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review following your stay with us. We appreciate the time you dedicated to describing both the positive aspects of your holiday and the areas where you feel we could improve.
We were pleased to read that you enjoyed several elements of your stay, including our beautiful location, the stunning views, the comfortable room, the quality of our food, the Greek night, the cooking demonstration, the outdoor cinema, the aqua aerobics, the BBQ boat trip, and most importantly the friendliness and helpfulness of our team members. Your kind words regarding our colleagues will certainly be shared with them.
At the same time, we are sorry to hear that your overall experience did not fully meet your expectations. We understand that choosing a holiday destination is especially important when travelling with children and when specific requirements need to be considered.
Regarding the sunbeds, we would like to clarify that we do have a policy regarding unattended sunbeds, with items being removed after a period of time when they are left unused. However, during the peak summer period, and especially in August, demand for preferred areas can be extremely high. With more than 650 sunbeds available across the beach and pool areas, our team makes every effort to manage availability fairly.
Regarding the wasps, we fully understand your concerns, especially considering your son’s previous reaction. Wasps are unfortunately a seasonal challenge throughout Greece during the warmer months and are not unique to our resort. Nevertheless, we take this matter seriously and carry out regular pest control treatments, approximately every two days, while also using repellent devices in different areas. We would like to mention that burning coffee, although sometimes suggested, is not considered an effective long-term solution and can negatively affect the atmosphere and experience of our guests.
We were sorry to hear about the incident involving your daughter. We are glad that our team responded immediately, provided assistance and helped reassure her during this difficult moment. Guest safety and wellbeing are always our priority.
Regarding entertainment, we were surprised by your comments, as throughout your review you also mention enjoying several activities, including aqua aerobics, the Greek cooking show, the Greek night and the acrobatic performance. We are pleased that these experiences created positive memories during your stay. Nevertheless, we understand that entertainment preferences differ from guest to guest and we continuously work on offering a varied programme throughout the season.
Regarding the facilities around the pool area, we do have public toilets available opposite the Spa and next to the pool area.
We are particularly happy to hear that our food offering was one of the highlights of your holiday. Your compliments regarding our chefs, the quality of the dishes, the pizzas, the omelettes and the Greek cooking experience are greatly appreciated. We also value your feedback regarding children’s food choices and will share your suggestions with our culinary team.
Finally, we sincerely apologize that the anniversary gesture arranged through your booking agent was not provided as expected. Special occasions are important to us, and we regret that this request was not followed through correctly.
We are sorry that some parts of your stay did not correspond with the expectations you had before arrival. However, we appreciate that you also recognized many positive aspects of our resort and the dedication of our team. We hope that in the future we will have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide you with an experience that better matches your expectations.
Kind regards,
Konstantinos Argyros, General Manager Grecotel Daphnila Bay

Fantastic, friendly and kind staff in beautiful surroundings

This is such a lovely hotel to stay at. You can either stay in the hotel itself and have an incredible sea view or go for one of the bungalows in the grounds. This was our second year at this hotel and we love it. The staff are so friendly and helpful always have time for a chat and always have smiles on their faces. The food was excellent with 4 restaurants to choose from. Two of the restaurants are down by the sea and the others up in the hotel. The choice is amazing and you can eat as much as you want. The rooms are comfortable although could do with a bit of updating, but they are spotless and cleaned everyday. It is a 10 minute walk down a hill to the beach where you can stay all day due to there being a restaurant down there, plus ice creams and crepes whenever you want one. If you can’t manage the hill back up to the hotel there is a free golf buggy or car ride to help you. Working independently on the beach is the Corfu ski club. They run ski lessons, para gliding, jet skis and fun rides. They are an incredible team, our daughter had a few ski lessons and the instructor Alex was perfect. I do not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a wonderful trouble free holiday.

A fantastic anniversary stay — we would absolutely return

We stayed at Grecotel Daphnila Bay in July 2026 for an anniversary trip, and we genuinely loved it. We were actually discussing coming back before we had even left!
The biggest highlight for us was the staff. Everyone was incredibly warm, courteous, and well trained, and the service consistently went beyond what we expected. Staff remembered us, anticipated what we needed, and were genuinely interested in making sure we had a great stay. A special mention has to go to Mr Garmenos, the head chef, as well as Asimina, Krissa, and Alexis in and around the restaurants and reception. Spiros from security was particularly lovely and we got to know him during our stay, and Nick from the grounds team was also incredibly kind and helpful. They really did make the experience special.
The beach is wonderful
We are big beach people, and Daphnila Bay’s beach was one of the main reasons we loved the resort. It’s a beautiful, relatively quiet sandy beach with a large grassy area and plenty of natural shade. Because it is primarily used by hotel guests, it never felt overwhelmingly busy.
The sea was crystal clear, clean, and wonderfully refreshing. I’m a keen snorkeller, and while this isn’t somewhere I’d choose specifically for serious snorkelling, there were fish and some other wildlife around the rocks and docks farther out.
The sunbeds were excellent. The hotel doesn’t allow people to reserve them before 9am, and this was clearly explained to guests. If we got down around 9–9:30am, we could usually get a front-row spot practically on the water. Later arrivals could still find loungers farther back, including under the trees, so we never saw a shortage.
The beach bar was also fantastic, and we loved being able to have lunch and drinks right by the water. The views are beautiful, looking out towards the surrounding Corfu coastline and Albania in the distance, without the bay being crowded with boats.
The food was a huge part of the experience
The main buffet, Antica Cucina, was very good, but the à-la-carte restaurants were the real highlight. We made a point of booking into as many as possible, which meant we only ate at the buffet on three of our seven nights.
Tavernaki, right on the beach, was particularly lovely. We also really enjoyed the Italian and Asian restaurants, as well as the other dining experiences. The food was consistently excellent, and there was a really good mix of Greek/local dishes and international options. Vegetarian and vegan choices were available, and the staff were very accommodating with dietary requirements.
If you are staying here, book the restaurants and experiences in advance. We contacted the hotel before arrival and they arranged our reservations, and the Grecotel app is also very useful for managing bookings and activities. It made a huge difference to our holiday.
The all-inclusive offering is also genuinely impressive. Premium drinks are included, with excellent cocktails, wines, spirits, coffee and soft drinks. We particularly enjoyed the Skinos the Med cocktail. There is also a sommelier and an included wine tasting, which was excellent and gave us a chance to learn about Greek wines and grapes.
We also did the Greek cooking class, where the head chef teaches you traditional recipes, and a Greek dancing class. Both were great fun and a nice way to break up the beach time.
Our bungalow was a great choice
We stayed in a partial sea-view bungalow, rather than one of the more secluded hideaways, and we thought it was perfect. The room was spacious, with a large bed plus a single-bed/sofa arrangement, a seating area and plenty of room to move around.
The balcony was fantastic, with a lovely partial sea view, and the room was exceptionally quiet. Air conditioning was excellent, the shower had very good water pressure and hot water, and housekeeping was efficient.
The minibar is included and can apparently be tailored to your preferences, which is a nice touch. Wi-Fi was also included and worked very well throughout the resort and in our bungalow.
The only oddity in the room was that there was no mirror outside of the bathroom. It would have been useful to have somewhere in the main room to get ready.
I would personally recommend the bungalows over staying in the main hotel if you value peace and quiet. The main hotel is closer to the pool, pool bar, and evening entertainment, so I imagine it would be noisier. The hideaways looked lovely and would suit someone prioritising seclusion, but they are even more tucked away and therefore involve more walking.
The hill is worth knowing about
The main caveat is that this resort is very steep. The bungalows are built into the hillside, so depending on where you stay, getting between your room, the beach and the main facilities can involve a significant incline — particularly challenging in the heat after you’ve spent the day swimming.
There is a shuttle/golf-cart service, and it was reliable. If you need it, staff can arrange for someone to come and collect you. There are also ramps and alternative routes in many places rather than just stairs.
For anyone with significant mobility issues, I’d discuss your requirements with the hotel before booking and potentially consider staying in the main hotel building, where the main restaurant, pool, bars and some facilities are closer together.
For us, staying halfway down the hill was actually a great compromise: close enough to the beach while still being reasonably convenient for the restaurants and buffet.
Danilia Village is absolutely worth doing
One of our favourite experiences was the evening at Danilia Village, a beautiful replica of a 1930s Corfiot village. The setting is genuinely magical, particularly around sunset, and you can wander through the village, grounds and museum before enjoying a traditional Greek dinner. The dinner was probably the best — or at least one of the best — meals we had during the entire stay.
It was such a lovely, romantic evening and felt like much more than simply going out for another meal. I would definitely recommend fitting this into your stay.
A few other things we enjoyed
There is a boat service from the resort to other Grecotel properties on the peninsula, which is a great way to see some different beaches. The boat is small, so you do need to plan around its capacity and timetable, and the captain advised getting back earlier in the afternoon when the sea is calmer.
The resort itself has a lovely balance of couples and families. We were there for an anniversary and found it absolutely suitable for a romantic trip, but it isn’t an adults-only resort. There is a separate children’s pool and children’s activities, while the evening entertainment was lively enough to be enjoyable without becoming intrusive.
Check-in was also excellent. We were welcomed with a refreshing drink, had everything explained without being overwhelmed, and were then taken with our luggage directly to our bungalow. Checkout was equally smooth.
The only thing keeping it from feeling truly five-star
The resort is officially four-star, and in many respects the experience felt much closer to five-star: exceptional staff, excellent food, a beautiful beach, premium drinks, fantastic location and a really strong all-inclusive offering.
Where you can see the four-star rating is in some of the physical details. There are little areas where paint could be refreshed, minor bathroom repairs that could be addressed, and some of the public facilities could use a little more maintenance. None of this affected our enjoyment of the holiday, but given how good everything else is, it feels like a missed opportunity. A little investment in upkeep could elevate the property considerably.
Overall
We thought Daphnila Bay was excellent value for money and an absolutely wonderful place for an anniversary. If you want a beautiful beach, great food, genuinely exceptional staff, and enough restaurants and activities to keep you busy without the resort feeling huge or impersonal, we’d highly recommend it.
Our biggest piece of advice is: don’t just sit by the pool or beach for seven days. Book the restaurants, do the wine tasting, try the cooking class, take the boat and visit Danilia Village. Those experiences added so much to our stay.
We would happily return to Daphnila Bay, and in fact, we were already planning our next visit before we’d even left
