Weekend in medieval history

We just spent two nights at the Hôtel Cardinal, a relaxing stay. The hotel has a lot of charm, a calm and soothing atmosphere, despite its exceptional location, right on the cathedral square. The historic center remains accessible on foot.
An address that we liked a lot and that we recommend without hesitation. We will return with pleasure during a future stay in Rouen!

Basic hotel right opposite cathedral. Clean and generally adequate but be careful with breakfast. We were told it was basic and said we would look outside but then found nowhere open and went back to the hotel only to learn that there was no breakfast there either as we had said no the night before. Finally found an open Starbucks some distance away but not a good experience! Other places stayed opening at 10 but that was too late for us.

Room was ready and clean when we arrived. We had a great corner room 2 floors above the Paul brasserie and across from the cathedral. The staff was helpful and pleasent.
Tip: For parking, they suggested the paid parking lots, but we found cheaper by finding street parking where it is free on Sundays and is only enforced from 9 am to 7 pm Monday-Saturday. We arrived on Sunday and left at 10 am on a Monday, so we only had to pay for one hour for a couple of euros. The lots, on the other hand, are much more expensive: 1 hour: €3.40, 2 hours: €5.70, 3 hours: €6.90, 24 hours: €16.90
Tip: We were told many restaurants in the center of town were closed on Sundays, but the Paul brasserie downstairs was open late, reasonably priced and served good food.

A+ Location and Service

Superb location. If you want to be in the very center of the historical center-- Hotel Cardinal is perfect. Right on cathedral square. Great views. Equidistant from St Maclou & Gross Horologue (sp),
Doesn’t pretend to be a 5 star hotel. It is a very solid 3-4 star that has a great location, clean rooms, ideal communication, and a good rate.
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again
