Dated and, sadly, not as described

Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing, particularly given that this hotel is rated five stars. By current standards, the property felt much closer to a three-star hotel and is in serious need of renovation.
The location is great but the room itself felt very dated, with carpeting and furniture that looked as though they had not been updated since the 1990s. There were also maintenance issues that simply should not be present in a five-star property: a broken lampshade, loose electrical outlets that would not securely hold plugs or adapters, and a bathroom sink that did not drain properly. The bed linens, to be fair, were very nice and of good quality.
Our biggest issue was the room we were given for three people. We specifically booked a room for three and were assured that it would comfortably accommodate us. In reality, it was clearly a standard double room with a cot added.
There wasn’t even a luggage rack in the room. There was also no iron or ironing board, so I requested those as well; unfortunately, the ironing board that was brought to us was broken. These may sound like small details, but they add up, particularly at a hotel positioning itself as five-star. My dister had an important call and the wifi was not good enough for zoom.
We were especially disappointed because junior suites were available during our stay. Given that we had booked for three people, an upgrade—or at least a more candid explanation that the standard room would be very tight—would have made a considerable difference.
The common areas did not improve the impression. The hallways have scent diffusers with a very heavy, old-fashioned cologne smell. The lobby, meanwhile, seemed to smell like a different type of food every time we came downstairs, presumably from the restaurant. It was noticeably unpleasant and not at all what one expects when entering a luxury hotel.
The staff were very formal and correct, which may reflect a more traditional French style of service, although we would have appreciated a little more warmth. I do want to give credit to the staff downstairs, who were helpful with our luggage.
I understand that older hotels can have historic charm, and we certainly did not expect everything to be brand new. However, there is a difference between classic and simply dated or poorly maintained. Broken fixtures, loose outlets, plumbing issues, dated carpeting and furniture, inadequate amenities, and a room that is not genuinely comfortable for the number of guests booked are difficult to reconcile with a five-star rating.
Overall, the hotel may once have met a five-star standard, but in its current condition it did not come close to the level of quality, comfort, or attention to detail we expected. A substantial renovation is overdue.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We are truly sorry that your stay did not meet the standards you expected from a five-star hotel.
We regret the maintenance issues you encountered, as well as the shortcomings regarding the layout and amenities of the triple room. We understand how much these details can significantly affect the comfort of a stay, especially during a family trip.
However, we are delighted that you appreciated the quality of the bed linens and the assistance provided by our luggage service.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced and regret that the historic character of our hotel did not translate into the level of comfort you expected. Your detailed feedback is invaluable to us in identifying areas for improvement.
Best regards,
The Communications Department

Our stay here was lovely, getting a room with a balcony is so worth it for your morning coffee or evening wine. Great location, easy to get around from there. Cozy bed and stable air temperature.

We reserved a superior room.
The floor in bathroom had lots of stains on it, the sink looked like it should be replaced, the bathtub should be resurfaced, the mattress is foam and was very misshapen, especially on one side. This was def not a 5 star property.
However, the location of the hotel was great.
