Great holiday parc
A holiday parc with privately owned houses and bungalows. Situated around a lake with beach. Swimming pools, tennis courts, play garden, mini golf, and a 18 -holes golf course around the corner. Restaurant, bar en small shop available. Reception with French, English and Dutch speaking employees. Several houses and bungalows have free Wifi.

One time experience in Village le Chat 97, Rue des Tulipes.
My wife and I spent a week's holiday in Village le Chat 97, Rue des Tulipes. The cottage looks nice at first glance, has all the amenities and offers privacy. Unfortunately our stay there was disappointing. On arrival you did see that they had beaten a shallow mop inside, but that was it. Upon entering, I walked through a spider web in the doorway. Once inside, by the windows, (sliding) doors, curtains, spiders and cobwebs in every corner of the house. The terrace dirty and filthy, and not just from one week. A dirty oven plate in the kitchen etc. Attached some 'atmospheric images' how the cottage lay on arrival.
But what bothered me the most is the horrible musty smell in the entire house. That foul musty smell comes from the walls, is in the curtains and in the furniture. We aired the whole house for eight days, still that musty smell was emphatic. I suspect that this house is completely closed all year round and smells so bad because of the long vacancy and lack of ventilation. When we returned home after our holiday, our own stuff also smelled of the same penetrating smell from the cottage.
So this is not OK. When you rent in this price range, expectations are higher in terms of order, cleanliness and hygiene. Especially since 85 euro cleaning fee has to be paid when booking.
When I got home I informed the owners in the Netherlands about the condition of the cottage. They refer in turn to the cleaner and the contact person on the premises. Only these people themselves can not do anything about the foul musty smell in the cottage, other drastic measures are needed.
The park itself is not too bad. It is nice and quiet and there is a swimming pool on site. The park is remote, but we knew that when booking.

One-time experience
The house was on the mediocre side in terms of hygiene. Little to do in the immediate area. Or a very long drive. And that is sometimes very nauseating in an environment with many small and winding roads. Restaurant closed and left in bad condition. In terms of the environment and our house, we will not return here.
Had a lot of trouble with noisy (owners) neighbors. Swimming pool fine but small to accommodate everyone...

Very interesting place - highly recommended for the price
We booked a bungalow at Village Le Chat at short notice. We have a tumbledown cottage in the Dordogne (really, it's falling down) and realised shortly before our planned holiday that getting the little Stankoviches* to sleep was going to be nigh on impossible there. I looked for cheap local accommodation and VLC came up.
Let's address the obvious stuff first. Yes, there is a cleaning fee which will be added to your booking. Minimum €50ish. I don't particularly like this - I'm used to England where by and large everything is upfront - but that's the way it is, so factor that into your costs and move on. Also you need to know that the price doesn't include bedlinen or towels, so if you're driving you'll need to bring your own; if you're flying, you can rent them from the site - you might like to check how much this will be before booking.
Yes, it's very Dutch! Apparently around 40 years ago an enterprising Dutchman bought a farm in France and started advertising in Holland for people to commission their holiday houses there. They did, so there is a Dutch feel throughout, but it's not oppressive... it isn't as if there are clogs and bikes everywhere. And marijuana. However, the staff seem to mainly speak Dutch, the food in the bar is Dutch (no problem IMHO) etc. But to be honest, after giving this review a bit of thought, I hope your conclusion will be the same as mine; if you want a real taste of France, you don't come to a holiday park. So frankly, the Dutchness is inconsequential.
FYI: all the bungalows/houses are privately owned. The park just books them for the owners, basically running the rental side for a percentage. This means that some of the houses (though not many) are occupied year round, and also means that every house there will be a bit different, so bear this in mind when booking too.
We booked in June before high season, so our experience of the place will doubtless be very different to yours if you're planning to go in the holidays - bear in mind that it's popular for Dutch families and their school holidays start earlier than France and the UK.
Now that we've got all that out of the way, what's it actually like? First impressions were great - friendly staff on the desk greeted us and gave us a welcome pack with leaflets about things to do in the area. The bungalow itself was certainly basic, but had been cleaned and there was a bottle of Village Le Chat wine waiting for us on the table, so we were off to a good start.
Overall it had everything we needed and nothing more. I'll look for the negatives, just so you know them; the TV was tiny, but we didn't turn it on so that didn't matter. The main problem with the house was that it got very hot; being of prefab construction, and having a fully glazed front door, the house heated up a lot in the day and this heat didn't disperse until early in the morning, so the rooms were stifling and this didn't help the kids sleep.
The positives about the house; though small, it was well equipped, having a washing machine, decent shower, and a dishwasher (thank you Jesus). There was also an outside patio area, part of which was shaded, so you could still sit out there if it was wet. There was an outdoor table and chair set, and two sun loungers. There was also a small garden which miniStankovich pottered round for hours on end picking daisies.
The site itself wraps round a central lake. VLC seem to be admirably relaxed about the use of the lake; you can fish, if you really don't have anything better to do, or you can swim if you don't mind sharing it with some decent sized fish! There's a small artificial beach area, though to be honest it isn't that nice; go to the Grand Etang de Saint-Estéphe (about 20 minutes away by car) if you want a nice lake beach. There's also a slide in the middle on a floating platform, which you can slide down and splash into the water - loads of fun. There are also two mini floating platforms rather like little chain ferries, which you can sit on and pull yourself over to the other side.
Finally there's the bar and pool area. As already mentioned, the bar food is Dutch, meaning the chips are excellent. In a side room there's air hockey, pinball (a Stern WPT model for the pinheads), a driving game simulator and one of those grabber things.
There are two swimming pools - a big one which starts at 1m deep and is heated, and a small one which I don't think is heated but has steps down and is only about 75cm deep, so ideal for little ones. There are loungers all around each pool and also movable sun umbrellas so you can get a bit of shade.
So my overall verdict; well, bear in mind that my review is probably artificially skewed by a couple of things:
* the family sleeping arrangements if we hadn't booked here would have been a nightmare, so I was happy just to be here anyway;
* the weather on the week we were there was absolutely spectacular, 30+ every day.
Despite those, I recommend VLC wholeheartedly. We paid around €350 for the week including the cleaning fee (the Euro was pretty weak against GBP at the time which didn't do any harm), and we had a lovely time. Memories of sitting down by the lake with miniStankovich watching the fish jump are going to stay with me for a long time. Being outside holiday time, the whole place was quiet and we had the small swimming pool to ourselves for almost all the week.
Next year will be the last year we can holiday outside school time. I'm definitely considering coming back to VLC, but probably booking a bigger and more luxurious bungalow/house next time.

Did not meet expectations
Made a booking via booking.com at very short notice (2 hours!) after being let down by our pre arranged accomodation elsewhere.
After travelling for an hour to get there, we were told they had no record of our booking, but the owner kindly found us an apartment to rent for the 3 nights. He then mentioned the cleaning fee, but when I asked for the cost he simply said, "well lets look at the apartment first".
We walked into a very plain cottage which is fine but not special in any way shape or form. The room did have the essentials ie, a bed, fridge and garden furniture on patio, and as it was now 6pm on a saturday evening, we had no choice but to pay for the room, oh and the 51 euro cleaning fee!! Having checked booking.com upon our return I can see this is mentioned in the fine print, but lets be honest, whoever reads that?!
Once we had paid up we went to the apartment to settle in. On closer inspection though it became very evident that the apartment had not been cleaned since the previous family left. There were food marks down the kitchen walls, toothpaste spray all over the bathroom mirror, and scum marks where old soap had sat on the sink unit in bathroom. We were really disappointed so went to see the manager, however he had gone home for the night.
We took pictures of the issues, but resorted to cleaning it ourself as coudlnt have stayed with it in that condition.
The restaurant was not open, so we had to eat our left over lunch sandwiches. not ideal!
Sunday - again the manager was not in and the restaurant did not appear to be open on the numerous times we visited.
Monday upon confirming situation for a very early check out (first time we had seen the owner) we explained about our disappointment. his response was to say "well they probably just sprayed the rooms to smell nice". He did however refund 25 euros "to make us happy".
Really disappointed with our experience here and as such could not recommend this resort to others.
The owner was polite and friendly, but there was a distinct lack of presence on the resort from any staff to ask about restaurant opening, local attractions, things to do etc. The resort was also extremelly quiet when we were there so very relaxing and peacful.
Was a real shame that our experience didn't match the other reviews that I have read.
