The perfect base for an active holiday

This gite is excellent value for money and I would highly recommend it for a number of reasons. We stayed here for a total of 4 nights and would strongly recommend it. The location makes it a great start and end point for a circular trip in the mountains - we stayed for a night and then had 4 nights in other refuges in the Réserve Naturelle du Néouvielle area of the Pyrenees before returning for 3 more nights using it as a base to explore the Cirque de Gavarnie area. The owners Patricia and Herve are extremely friendly and welcoming and will go out of their way to make you feel at home. The home cooked 4 course evening meals are really delicious (I had the best salmon and green beans that I have ever had here) and breakfasts are a very substantial way to prepare for a day of walking in the Pyrenees. Communal rooms are well stocked with games and books to keep you occupied in the evenings and clean rooms with comfy beds and hot power showers are very welcome amenities after a long day of walking! Thank you Patricia and Herve for your hospitality - I hope to come again one day!

Accommodation to avoid.

We were poorly welcomed by a man smoking his cigarette while we were waiting in front of the door.
To our request for breakfast on our own, because we wanted to leave early, a very dry refusal, while all the other accommodations accepted it for us.
A room with 6 beds and only one outlet...
No dinner possible, even though there were about 10 of us..
Accommodation to avoid, I am surprised to read positive comments when checking the reviews...
Other Grdistes we saw the next day confirmed their discomfort during breakfast, orders in a military tone, borderline misogynistic remarks..

The worst

We stayed at many gites and small hotels in the Pyrenees and this one sucks. The most unfriendly and unhelpful owners. Treated us with contempt from the start. Opened door on the room without knocking, for an unknown reason. Begrudged me having an extra yogurt pot at breakfast. I'd have been quite happy paying extra. Wouldn't do coffee after dinner. No sheets available. Shower you can't pick the soap up in if you drop it. AVOID.

A wonderful oasis!

The Gite L 'Oasis is a wonderful establishment. It is ideal for the budget traveller! We went for the snow and ski experience and were not disappointed. A HUGE THANK YOU to Herve and Patricia for making our first ski holiday such a lovely experience. We can't wait to visit again!
The delicious three course (traditional French) meals every night were very welcome after the hectic days on the slopes! It was also a lovely opportunity to chat to fellow skiers and gain some valuable tips.
L'Oasis is around the corner from the (free) bus that takes you to the slopes. In the afternoons, if you don't feel like a bus ride, it is a lovely green slope ski back to the accommodation.
To relax tired muscles, there is a lovely spa round the corner.
The accommodation is clean and welcoming. We were in a four bed hostel style room, with our own shower. We had our own balcony, with the most fantastic views of the mountain. (There are communal toilets on every floor.)
Downstairs, there are two relaxing rooms - with a cosy fireplace and games to keep you busy in the evening.
Both Herve and Patricia went out of their way to make our stay a happy one.
The Gite L' Oasis is a wonderful find and I would highly recommend it!

Ce gîte l'Oasis à Barèges est très agréable, confortable et prore.

Très bon rapport qualité prix. Très bonne literie, linge de toilette fourni ainsi que le linge deliterie. Petits déjeuners excellents. AImable accueil des hébergeurs et caresses affectueuses du chien ! Salon de repos ou de lecture. Local à chaussures avec entrée réservée.
Gîte Non fumeur,
Je recommande ++++++++.
